Spare parts

Spare parts cover the most-repaired retro handhelds: IPS and LCD screens from 2.45 to 3.5 inches for the Game Boy, GBC, GBA, GBA SP, Game Gear, DS Lite and PSP, complete shells, batteries, conductive rubber pads, micro switches, FFC ribbons and charging modules. Each reference is chosen on the exact model.

Identifying the right reference before ordering a spare part

The exact revision counts for more than the name of the console

A Game Boy is not a reference, it is a family. The panels offered run from 2.45 inches for the Game Boy Color to 3.5 inches for the Game Gear, by way of 2.5 inches on the DMG, 2.6 inches on the GBC, 2.9 inches on the GBA and 3 inches on the GBA SP. On the PSP side, the 1000, 2000, 3000 and Go models share neither the same panel nor the same battery: 3.6 V for the PSP 2000 and 3000, 2000 mAh for the DS Lite, 1500 mAh for the Game Boys.

Solder-free and cut-free are two different promises

  • Solder-free: the part plugs into an existing connector, no iron needed.
  • Cut-free: the original shell goes back on as it is, but nothing says the installation avoids soldering.
  • To be soldered: speakers, a USB-C charging module or a 28-pin FRAM chip call for an iron and braid.

What it doesn't do

  • These are compatible replacement parts, not original manufacturer parts.
  • No complete motherboard and no working console: the selection stops at sub-assemblies.
  • No fitting service and no diagnosis: the installation is down to you.

Questions fréquentes

Which screen should you choose for a Game Boy Color?
Two approaches exist side by side. The 2.45-inch panel fits with no cutting of the shell: the outside look stays original and the display area follows the existing frame. The 2.6-inch panel takes up more room and offers a pixel grid mode that imitates the look of the screen of the day. The choice is between preservation and reading comfort.
Do you need to solder to change a DS Lite battery?
No. The 2000 mAh replacement battery sits in its compartment and the screwdriver needed is supplied with the part. It is one of the most accessible jobs on this console, generally less than ten minutes. Just get into the habit of checking the state of the connector before closing the shell.
What is a TP4056 charging module for?
It is a charging circuit for a 1S lithium battery, that is, a single cell at 3.7 V nominal. It manages the charge and the cut-off at the end of the cycle, which makes it possible to add a charging port to a console that did not have one. It comes in USB-C, micro-USB and mini-USB versions, to be chosen according to the cable you already use.
