NES replacement shell: a new, translucent housing for the front-loading console
The grey housing of the NES yellows, cracks and loses its screw posts over the years. This BitFunx replacement shell in translucent ABS reproduces the shape of the front-loading model and accepts American, European and Hong Kong motherboards. Three colours: clear, translucent black, translucent purple.
What it does
- Replaces a damaged housing: yellowed, cracked or with broken screw posts.
- US, EU and HK motherboards: the regional variants of the front-loading NES are covered, according to the manufacturer.
- Translucent ABS: the electronics remain visible, in three colours.
What it doesn't do
- It does not fit the top-loading NES (compact model) or the Famicom.
- Only the housing is guaranteed to be included: plan to reuse the screws, buttons, flap, springs and internal parts from your console.
- It does not fix a worn cartridge connector: it is a cosmetic part.
Compatibility
Front-loading NES, American, European and Hong Kong motherboards. Not compatible with the top-loading NES, the Famicom and its derivatives.
Skill level required
Intermediate, no soldering. You need to open the NES (Phillips screwdriver), remove the motherboard, the cartridge connector, the controller port board and the buttons, then reinstall everything in the new shell. Photograph each step and keep the screws in order.

The job: an NES that shows off its circuits
You open the console, photograph each step, remove the motherboard, the cartridge connector, the controller port board and the buttons, then install them in the new shell. With no soldering or cutting, a yellowed or cracked NES gets a clean, translucent housing that shows its original electronics.
