Replacement joystick for N64 controller: get back a stick that holds firm

The stick of an N64 controller wears from the inside: plastic dust builds up, the stick becomes loose, no longer returns to centre and characters move poorly. This complete analogue module replaces the original unit in one piece, with a screwdriver, to make an N64 controller playable again.

What it does

• Complete module: you replace the whole stick unit, not just the cap.
• Firm return to centre: a new mechanism, without the accumulated wear of vintage modules.
• Screwdriver installation: the module screws in place of the original and plugs into the controller board.

What it doesn't do

• This is not an original part. The feel and range of motion may differ from those of the vintage stick.
• It does not repair a cut cable, an unresponsive button or the controller's expansion port.
• It only applies to the standard wired N64 controller, not to controllers for other consoles.

Compatibility

Standard wired N64 controller, all colours. Not compatible with GameCube controllers, non-standard N64 controllers (arcade sticks, steering wheels) or recent wireless reissues, which are built differently.

Skill level required

Beginner to intermediate level, no soldering. You unscrew the back of the controller (Phillips screwdriver), remove the original stick unit by unscrewing its fixings and unplugging its cable, then install the new module the same way. Note the orientation of the connector before unplugging the old module.
