What it protects
The RG557 is a large console: over 22 cm wide, with a screen that covers almost the entire front face. At that size, the risk is no longer the scratch but the twist, when the console gets wedged sideways in a bag. The rigid EVA shell and the molded foam answer exactly that: the console is supported along its whole length and does not flex.
In everyday use
The zip runs all the way around the shell. The console sits in the molded recess, screen facing up, and the central hold keeps it in place. The red wrist strap detaches: handy for carrying it by hand around town, easy to remove when the case goes to the bottom of a bag. At 25.4 cm long, it takes up the full width of a backpack: store it flat, not sideways.
What it doesn't do
It takes the RG557 and nothing else. The narrower RG556 floats in the molded recess and has its own case at Anbernic. There is no room for a cable: the foam fills the entire volume and no mesh pocket is provided. The console cannot be charged inside, and no drop resistance is stated.

Will this case fit my console?
It is designed for the Anbernic RG557. It does not fit the RG556: that one is narrower and floats in the molded recess. Anbernic sells a separate case for the 556.
Can I store a cable with the console?
No. The molded foam fills the whole interior and there is neither a mesh pocket nor an accessory compartment. The cable has to travel separately.
Can I charge the console inside?
No. The shell has no cable pass-through.
Can the wrist strap be removed?
Yes. The red wrist strap is detachable. Keep it to carry the case by hand, and remove it when the case goes to the bottom of a bag.
