Description complète
Composite AV cable for Wii and Wii U: plugging the console back into a TV with RCA sockets
The original cable gets lost, gets cut or ends up crackling, and the console stays at the back of a cupboard. This 1.8 m composite AV cable links the AV Multi Out output of the Wii or the Wii U to the three yellow, red and white RCA sockets of a TV or a projector. Plug it straight in, with no power supply and no particular setting.
What it does
- Composite video: the yellow plug carries the picture in standard definition, the one the console outputs by default.
- Stereo sound: the red and white plugs carry the two analogue audio channels.
- 1.8 m long: enough to link the console to a TV cabinet without an extension.
What it doesn't do
- It doesn't improve the picture: composite stays in standard definition. No 480p, no component, no HDMI.
- It converts nothing: a recent TV with only HDMI inputs won't be able to use it without a converter (not supplied).
- No digital sound and no surround: two analogue channels, nothing more.
- It's neither a power supply nor a controller cable: it's the console's audio/video cable only.
Compatibility
Wii and Wii U consoles fitted with the AV Multi Out port. It has nothing to do with the Switch, the Wii U GamePad, or any console with a different video output. On the TV side, you need three yellow / red / white RCA inputs: on a SCART screen, an RCA to SCART adapter is required (not supplied). We state no other compatibility until it has been checked.
Skill level required
None. With the console switched off, push the connector into the machine's AV output, then the three plugs into the matching coloured inputs on the TV, and select the AV source. No tools, no soldering, nothing to take apart.
In the box
- 1 composite AV cable, 1.8 m, AV Multi Out connector to 3 RCA plugs.
- Supplied without a console and without games, in compliance with the law.

A console left silent for want of a cable
A Wii comes back out of a box, the remote is there, the games too, but the audio/video cable has vanished. It's the most ordinary failure in home retro gaming, and the most frustrating: without it, the console is a useless white block. This cable takes over from the original one, with the same AV Multi Out connector on one side and the three RCA plugs on the other. Nothing to set up, nothing to learn.
What the cable carries
The yellow plug carries the picture in composite, the red and white plugs carry stereo sound. It's the standard analogue connection of the Wii and the Wii U, the one recognised by every TV fitted with RCA inputs, from CRTs to entry-level flat screens. The 1.8 m covers the usual distance between a console sitting on the floor and a TV cabinet, without an extension.
To check before you order
Composite works no miracles: it carries the picture just as the console outputs it, in standard definition, without converting or resizing it. If you're after a sharper picture, component or an HDMI converter is the way to go, not this cable. Have a look at the back of your TV too: without three yellow, red and white RCA inputs, you'll need an adapter, which isn't supplied here.

Frequently Asked Questions
🔌 Does this cable work on both the Wii and the Wii U?
Yes, it plugs into the AV Multi Out port of both consoles. It doesn't suit any machine with a different video output.
🎨 What do the three coloured plugs correspond to?
The yellow one carries the picture in composite, the red and white ones the two channels of stereo sound. You plug them into the matching coloured inputs on the TV.
📺 My TV only has HDMI inputs, what can I do?
This cable doesn't convert the signal. You'll need a composite to HDMI converter, or an RCA to SCART adapter depending on your screen. Neither is supplied.
🖥️ Does it improve picture quality?
No. Composite stays in standard definition: the cable carries the picture as it is, with no 480p, no component and no processing.
🎮 Is there a setting to change on the console?
No. Once it's plugged in, you just select the AV source on the TV. No menu to change, no power supply to plan for.
