WavePhoenix receiver: giving your WaveBird controller a receiver again
The WaveBird wireless controller is still easy to find, its receiver much less so: lost, broken or sold separately, it is often missing. The WavePhoenix is a replacement receiver from an open-source project, which plugs into a controller port of a compatible GameCube or Wii and brings the WaveBird back to life. It comes in a 3D-printed case.
What it does
- Replaces the original receiver: the WaveBird controller becomes usable again without hunting for a period receiver.
- Direct connection: it plugs into a controller port, like the original receiver.
- 3D-printed case: choice of five colours.
What it doesn't do
- The WaveBird controller is not supplied: the receiver only works with it.
- It does not make a wired controller wireless and does not work with wireless controllers from other brands.
- It cannot be used on a Wii without GameCube controller ports (Wii RVL-101, Wii mini), or on Wii U or Switch.
- The 3D-printed case does not have the finish of a moulded part: slight print lines are normal.
Compatibility
GameCube (all revisions) and Wii RVL-001, which has GameCube controller ports. Controller: original WaveBird only. Not covered: Wii RVL-101, Wii mini, Wii U, Switch, wired controllers and third-party wireless controllers.

The job: getting the WaveBird out of the drawer
Many WaveBird controllers sleep in a drawer for lack of a receiver. Plug the WavePhoenix into a controller port of the GameCube or Wii RVL-001, pair it once with the controller, and play wirelessly from the sofa again. No tools, no opening the console: just a controller back in service.
The part: a receiver born from an open project
WavePhoenix is an open-source project that recreates the WaveBird receiver, which has become rare. This receiver is a build of it, supplied in a 3D-printed case available in five colours. It replaces the original where it used to plug in, on a GameCube controller port, without changing anything on the console.
Before ordering: check your console and controller
Two conditions are enough: an original WaveBird controller, and a console with GameCube controller ports, either a GameCube or a Wii RVL-001. More recent Wii consoles no longer have these ports. If in doubt, our customer service replies within 1 business day and also helps you with pairing.

No. The receiver plugs into a controller port, like the original. No disassembly, no soldering.
🎮 Which consoles does it work on?
On GameCube and on Wii RVL-001, which has GameCube controller ports. The Wii RVL-101, the Wii mini, the Wii U and the Switch are not covered.
