Description complète
USB-C 9 V cable: a modern charger instead of the original power brick
The original power bricks of 8- and 16-bit consoles are heavy, run hot and eventually give out. This cable draws a fixed 9 V from a USB-C Power Delivery charger and delivers it to the console through a 5.5 × 2.1 mm centre-negative jack, the connector used by the Famicom, the Super Famicom and the Mega Drive 1.
What it does
- Fixed 9 V output: 2 A maximum, what a console designed for a 9 V brick expects.
- Built-in protection: overvoltage, overcurrent and short circuit.
- Thick copper wire: designed to withstand repeated bending.
- Two lengths: 10 cm to plug the console straight into a USB-C power strip, 1.8 m to reach a wall socket.
What it doesn't do
- The USB-C Power Delivery charger is not included: it must be able to supply 9 V, and the manufacturer recommends a 65 W model or higher.
- It is not suitable for centre-positive consoles, nor for those that need a voltage other than 9 V.
- It is not suitable for the American or European Super Nintendo, which use a different plug.
- A standard USB charger without Power Delivery will not supply 9 V: the console will not switch on.
Compatibility
Famicom, Super Famicom and Mega Drive 1, and more broadly any console powered at 9 V through a 5.5 × 2.1 mm centre-negative jack. Before ordering, check the label on your original power brick: 9 V and the centre-negative polarity symbol. For the American Super Nintendo, see our dedicated cable.
Skill level
None: the cable replaces the original brick, without opening the console. Plug the jack into the console and the USB-C end into the charger. Beginner level.

The move: unplug the old transformer
The power brick of a Famicom or Mega Drive is often more than thirty years old: it runs hot, hums and takes up all the room on the power strip. This cable replaces it with the USB-C charger you already have for your phone or computer, provided it can supply 9 V over Power Delivery.
The part: fixed 9 V, centre negative
The cable negotiates 9 V with the charger and delivers it through a 5.5 × 2.1 mm centre-negative jack, the format used by the Famicom, Super Famicom and Mega Drive 1 consoles. It limits the current to 2 A and cuts off in case of overvoltage, overcurrent or short circuit. Two lengths: 10 cm or 1.8 m.
The support: the right plug for the right console
A retro console powered incorrectly can be damaged: voltage and polarity must match those of the original brick. If you are unsure about your model, send us a photo of your power supply's label: our customer service replies within one business day.
