SMD LEDs 0402 to 1206: bring a console's lights back without buying one pack per colour
On a retro handheld, the lighting gives out before the electronics: a tired backlight, a dead charge indicator, a button that no longer lights up. This pack of 100 surface-mount LEDs covers the four packages you come across on console and controller boards — 0402, 0603, 0805 and 1206 — in the colour of your choice. What it does
- Four packages to choose from: 0402, 0603, 0805 and 1206, selectable in the variants according to your board's footprint.

- It is not a backlight kit: no ribbon cable, diffuser, resistors or holder are included.

Compatibility
These LEDs fit on any board that accepts an SMD 0402, 0603, 0805 or 1206 footprint: handheld console motherboards, controller boards, button daughterboards, custom PCB projects. Measure the original footprint before ordering — an 0603 does not sit cleanly on a pad designed for 1206. Nothing here is specific to one console model, and no original replacement part number is provided.
Skill level required
SMD soldering required. The 1206 and 0805 can be placed with a fine-tip iron and a little practice; the 0603 and especially the 0402 need a hot air station or a very fine iron, flux, anti-static tweezers and a magnifier. Also make sure to identify the polarity of each LED before placing it: a diode fitted the wrong way round will not light up.

The job: giving a 25-year-old machine its light back
On a handheld from the 1990s or 2000s, the charge LED and indicator lights are often the first to fail: they have been lit continuously for two decades. The rest of the board works, but the console looks dead when you plug it in.
