EVA hard case: the R36S travels without scratches or a pushed-in screen
A retro handheld console spends its life in a bag, between a bunch of keys and a charger. The screen gets scratched, the sticks get bent, and the microSD card ends up popping out. This EVA foam hard case is moulded for R36S / R35S-sized consoles: semi-rigid shell, lined interior and a zip all the way round. It works for daily carrying as well as for storage when the console sits unused for a few weeks.
What it does
- EVA hard shell: absorbs knocks in the bag and prevents the screen from being crushed.
- Moulded shape: the console is held in place and doesn't move around inside the case.
- Zip closure: everything stays closed, keeping dust and bag crumbs out.
- Compact size: slips into a backpack or shoulder bag without taking up the space of a pencil case.
What it doesn't do
- It's not a waterproof case: it withstands splashes in a bag, not immersion or driving rain.
- It won't protect against a fall of several metres or being crushed under a heavy weight.
- The console is not supplied: this is an empty case, with no console, no microSD card and no games.
- The number and shape of the internal compartments (mesh, pockets) are not confirmed by the manufacturer — don't count on them to store a charger.
- It is not designed for large models with screens of 5 inches or more, or for clamshell consoles.
Compatibility
Designed for handheld consoles the size of the R36S and R35S. Consoles of similar dimensions (small horizontal format, 3.5-inch screen) generally fit, but the brand doesn't publish an official list: measure your console before ordering if it isn't an R36S or R35S. Not suitable for clamshell consoles or large-screen models.
Skill level required
None. No disassembly, no tools, no soldering: open it, put the console in, close it. It's a carrying accessory, not a workshop part.

The console that lives in a bag
A retro handheld doesn't stay on a shelf: it goes to work, on the train, on holiday. That's where it gets damaged, rarely while you're playing. A bunch of keys scratches a screen in just a few trips, a book placed on top bends an analogue stick. The hard case solves the problem at the source: the console has its own closed space, and the rest of the bag no longer touches it.
Why a moulded EVA shell
EVA foam is the classic compromise for carrying: rigid enough to hold its shape and absorb a knock, flexible enough not to break. Unlike a fabric pouch, it prevents the screen from being crushed when you put your bag down. The shape moulded to the R36S / R35S size also stops the console from sliding around inside, which is the weakness of universal cases.
