PSP 2000 / 3000 battery: a handheld that holds its charge again
A PSP Slim pulled out of a box rarely lasts more than twenty minutes: the original cell is fifteen years old and its lithium-ion chemistry has collapsed, sometimes to the point of the pack swelling. This 3.6 V replacement battery slides into the original compartment behind the rear cover and gives you back a normal gaming session without reaching for a soldering iron.
What it does
- Replaces the original cell: same format and same nominal voltage (3.6 V) as the battery supplied with the PSP 2000 and 3000.
- Swaps without tools: the PSP's rear cover opens by hand, the old cell comes out and the new one goes in. No soldering, no shell disassembly.
- Removes the risk of a swollen pack: an original battery that bulges warps the shell and pushes on the screen. Replacing it is the only answer.
What it doesn't do
- It doesn't give you more battery life than a new PSP: it restores what the console had originally, no more. We deliberately don't quote any capacity in mAh: the manufacturer's listing gives two different values depending on where you look, and neither has been verified on our side.
- It isn't suitable for the PSP 1000 (“Fat” model), whose compartment and original battery are thicker, nor for the PSP Go or the PS Vita.
- It won't fix a console that no longer charges: if the power connector or the charging circuit is at fault, changing the cell changes nothing.
- It isn't supplied fully charged — allow for a first full cycle on mains power before judging the battery life.
Compatibility
PSP 2000 (models 2001 to 2010, “Slim & Lite” series) and PSP 3000 (models 3001 to 3010). Not compatible with the PSP 1000, the PSP Go (soldered internal battery), the PS Vita or handheld consoles from other brands.
Skill level required
Beginner. No tools, no soldering: open the rear cover with a fingernail, swap the cell, close it again. Allow less than a minute. The old lithium battery goes to a collection point, never in the bin — and a visibly swollen battery must be handled without puncturing or bending it.
In the box
- 1 3.6 V lithium-ion battery for PSP 2000 / 3000
No charger, battery cover or tools: the listing covers the cell only.

Twenty minutes of battery life? It's the cell
A PSP Slim found in an attic almost always switches on, but it soon shuts down. It's not the screen or the motherboard: it's the original lithium battery, designed in 2007, which has lost most of its capacity over fifteen years of slow discharge. Sometimes it has also swollen, and that's what pushes the rear shell outwards. Changing the cell is the first thing to do before blaming anything else.
A wear part, not an upgrade
This battery matches the format and 3.6 V nominal voltage of the original PSP 2000 and 3000 pack. It fits under the rear cover with no shim or adapter. We deliberately don't highlight any capacity figure: makers of replacement cells quote mAh ratings that nothing allows you to check, and the promise of doubled battery life has never held up on this model. Expect normal gaming sessions to return, not a record.
Nothing to take apart, but two precautions
The job takes less than a minute and needs no tools: open the cover, swap, close. Two rules all the same. A swollen lithium battery must not be punctured or bent, and should be taken as it is to a collection point. And a first full charge cycle on mains power is a must before judging battery life: a cell that has been in storage rarely arrives full. Got a question about your PSP revision? We reply within 1 business day.

Frequently Asked Questions
🔋 Is it compatible with my PSP?
Yes for the PSP 2000 (models 2001 to 2010) and the PSP 3000 (3001 to 3010). No for the PSP 1000, the PSP Go and the PS Vita.
🧰 Do I need tools or soldering?
Neither. The PSP's rear cover opens by hand, and the cell comes out and is replaced directly.
⏱️ How long does the replacement take?
Less than a minute, with no shell disassembly. It's one of the simplest repairs on this console.
⚡ What capacity does this battery have?
We don't give a value in mAh: the manufacturer's statements contradict each other and we haven't measured the cell. The nominal voltage is 3.6 V, the same as the original pack.
📦 What's in the box?
A 3.6 V lithium-ion battery, on its own. No charger, cable or battery cover.
🪣 My original battery has swollen, what should I do?
Remove it without puncturing or bending it, don't leave it in the console, and take it to a collection point. A swollen cell warps the shell and can press on the screen.
🚚 What are the delivery times?
Delivery in 10 to 18 days, ships within 3 to 5 days.
🛡️ Which guarantee applies?
2-year legal guarantee of conformity. 14-day returns. Listing verified on 19 August 2026.
