5 V fan bracket for PS2 Fat: quietening the console's airflow
The original fan of a PS2 Fat becomes noisy with age and dust. This ABS bracket lets you install a 5 V fan in place of the original one, in PS2 Fat SCPH-3xxxx and SCPH-5xxxx consoles. A 5 V regulator comes with the bracket to protect the fan from overvoltage.
What it does
- Screw-mounted bracket: made of ABS, it is screwed in at the location of the original fan.
- 5 V regulator: it protects the fan from excessive voltage.
- Two options: bracket only if you already have your fan, or bracket with fan.
What it doesn't do
- The “Bracket only” variant does not contain a fan.
- It is suitable neither for PS2 Fat SCPH-1xxxx nor for PS2 Slim.
- It does not replace maintenance: a clogged heatsink or dried-out thermal paste will keep the console running hot.
- Installation requires opening the console.
Compatibility
PS2 Fat of the SCPH-3xxxx and SCPH-5xxxx series. Not covered: PS2 Fat SCPH-1xxxx, PS2 Slim (SCPH-7xxxx and 9xxxx) and PS2 TV. The model number is on the label underneath the console.
Skill level required
Disassembly of the console down to the original fan, screwing in the bracket, then connecting the fan via the regulator. Have a Phillips screwdriver and a plastic spudger ready; take advantage of the console being open to dust off the heatsink. Intermediate level.

The job: quietening a PS2 Fat
A twenty-year-old PS2 Fat blows hard, especially if its fan has gathered dust. You open the console, remove the original fan, screw the bracket in its place and connect the 5 V fan via the regulator. The console goes back into service in a quieter room.
