OEM profile PBT keycaps: give your keyboard back its sculpting and legible legends
The keys supplied with an entry-level mechanical keyboard are ABS: they go shiny after a few months and the characters eventually wear off. This set of more than 130 double-shot PBT keys replaces them on any keyboard with MX cross stems, with legends printed on the front face and a translucent body that lets the backlight shine through.
What it does
- Double-shot PBT: the character is a second plastic moulded into the key, not a print applied to the surface. It cannot wear off with use.
- OEM profile: height sculpted row by row, the most widespread profile on off-the-shelf mechanical keyboards. You keep your bearings without relearning how to type.
- Side printing and translucent body: the legend is on the front face of the key, and the keyboard lighting passes through it from the side instead of being hidden by the top.
- More than 130 keys: enough to cover a full 104-key keyboard and keep spare sizes for compact layouts.
What it doesn't do
- Won't fit a membrane keyboard, a flat laptop keyboard, or low-profile switches such as Kailh Choc: you need an MX cross stem.
- Doesn't light the legend from above. The top of the key is blank and the marking is read on the front face: on a keyboard without backlighting, the visual appeal disappears.
- Contains no switches, stabilisers or keyboard. It's a keycap set on its own, designed to replace the keys of an existing keyboard.
- Doesn't guarantee a complete AZERTY layout: the legends follow an ANSI layout, and keyboards whose Enter key, left Shift key or space bar is a non-standard size may be left with gaps.
- The set is advertised as having more than 130 keys; we don't state the size-by-size breakdown until it is confirmed.
Compatibility
Mechanical keyboards with MX cross stems: Cherry MX and switches with the same geometry (Gateron, Kailh, Outemu, TTC). 60%, 65%, 75%, TKL and 104-key form factors in ANSI layout. Not suitable for membrane keyboards, laptop scissor-switch keyboards, low-profile switches (Kailh Choc) or Topre and Alps mechanical keyboards, whose stems have a different shape. On an AZERTY keyboard, measure the width of your Enter key, left Shift key and space bar before ordering.
Skill level required
No soldering, no keyboard disassembly. Remove the original keys with a keycap puller (wire or plastic), then press the new ones on by hand, following the row order: the OEM profile is sculpted, so a top-row key doesn't go on the bottom row. Allow ten to fifteen minutes for a full keyboard. The puller is not guaranteed to be in the box, so get one if you don't already have one.

The keyboard, the last piece of the retro setup
You take care of the screen, the controller, the desk mat, and the keyboard is still the one that came in the PC box. Its ABS keys are shiny, its legends are fading, and it clashes with the rest of the desk. Swapping the keycap set is the only modification that transforms the thing in ten minutes, with no screwdriver and nothing irreversible at stake. The original keyboard stays intact: its keys go back on whenever you like.
What double-shot PBT really changes
On a printed key, the character sits on top of the plastic: it wears away under your fingers. Here it is moulded into the material, a second plastic injected into the first, running through the full thickness of the key. PBT also resists shine better than ABS: the surface texture lasts over time instead of turning glossy on the most-used keys.
What to check before ordering
Two things to check, and we'd rather say so before you buy. First, the stem: remove a key; you need an MX cross. A membrane or laptop keyboard won't take this set. Second, the layout: the legends follow the ANSI standard, so on an AZERTY keyboard with a large Enter key or a short left Shift, some positions may be left empty. Measure before you click.

🔩 Will these keycaps fit my keyboard?
Yes, if your switches have an MX cross stem: Cherry MX, Gateron, Kailh, Outemu, TTC. Remove a key to check. Membrane, scissor-switch, Kailh Choc low-profile, Topre and Alps keyboards are not compatible.
🎭 What does “double-shot PBT” mean?

💡 Does the backlight shine through the keys?
