Teemo is the champion you either adore or curse, never anything in between: a round face, a hat that is far too big, and mushrooms scattered all over the map. The set embraces that double reading with forest green, brown and a touch of yellow – a warm, legible palette that escapes the usual dark register of gaming sets. Fitting twelve keycaps when you have never taken a keyboard apart
No experience is required, and that is what makes it a good first accessory. Check the stem first: pull one cap off the keyboard, and if the switch forms a cross, it is an MX stem and the set clips onto it (Cherry MX, Gateron, Kailh, Outemu). The puller is included in the box: it grips the cap by the sides and pulls straight up, without touching the visible face. The new cap then goes on by hand, with no glue and no soldering. Just one precaution: the profile is OEM, each row has its own height, so keep every cap on an equivalent row. And if the result is not to your taste, everything goes back to original in a few minutes.
What to know before giving this Teemo set as a gift
If this is a gift, three things are worth checking first. The person must already own a mechanical keyboard: this set is not one, and twelve keycaps dress a zone without replacing entire rows. Will this set fit my keyboard?
It mounts on mechanical keyboards with an MX cross-stem: Cherry MX, Gateron, Kailh, Outemu. Pull off one cap and look at the switch stem: if it forms a cross, the set clips onto it. On a membrane keyboard, on low-profile keys or on a proprietary stem, the keycaps will not attach.
How many keycaps are in the set?
12 keycaps and a puller, for the keys you use most: WASD, ability keys or the function row. This is not a full set: the rest of the keyboard keeps its original caps, and the layout size (60%, TKL, full-size) makes no difference.
Do these keycaps stand up to everyday use?
PBT is harder and drier than the ABS fitted as standard on most keyboards: it does not take on the sticky shine of the most heavily typed keys. And because the motif is applied by dye-sublimation (DYE-SUB), the dye diffuses into the plastic instead of sitting on top of it: there is no layer to chip.
Is this a good gift for someone just starting out?
Yes, on one condition: the person must already own a mechanical keyboard with MX stems. The rest is simple, fitting is done by hand with the puller included and undone just as quickly. Since the operation is reversible, the gift carries no risk: if the green palette does not land, the original caps are back in a few minutes.
Does the design land with someone who does not play?
Largely, yes: it is a small hatted creature in greens and browns, readable as a likeable character even without knowing the game. Players will see Teemo and his mushrooms. It is an inspired design, not a reproduction of any in-game artwork.
