Lead-free solder wire: the basic supply for the retro workshop
Recapping a motherboard, fitting an IPS screen, replacing a worn headphone jack or a battery connector: most jobs on a 90s machine come down to a few solder joints. This 50 g spool of lead-free solder with a flux core covers those uses, with seven diameters from 0.5 to 2.0 mm to choose from.
What it does
- Built-in flux core: 2% rosin flux, released as the solder melts. It cleans the surface as you work, with no need for separate flux on routine joints.
- Seven diameters: 0.5 and 0.6 mm for component leads and fine ribbon cables, 0.8 and 1.0 mm for general use, 1.2 to 2.0 mm for large joints and power wires.
- Lead-free alloy: stated melting point of 227 °C, consistent with a temperature-controlled iron.
What it doesn't do
- It doesn't handle like tin-lead solder. Lead-free needs a hotter tip and gives matt-looking joints: it isn't the most forgiving wire for your first soldering job.
- The 50 g stated by the manufacturer includes the weight of the spool. The actual amount of wire is therefore lower.
- It isn't for desoldering: removing a component requires desoldering braid or a desoldering pump, not supplied.
- No soldering iron, tip, additional liquid flux or stand included.
- The diameter you choose is fixed: a 2.0 mm spool won't let you work on fine SMD.
Compatibility
This isn't a part tied to a machine: you choose by diameter, not by console. The wire suits hobby electronics in general — handheld and home console motherboards, controllers, IPS screen kits, battery modules, connectors, buttons and ribbon cables. It isn't intended for plumbing, jewellery or mechanical assemblies on thick metals.
Skill level required
A temperature-controlled soldering iron is essential, with a fine tip for the 0.5 to 0.8 mm diameters. Have something on hand for cleaning up afterwards: desoldering braid, flux and isopropyl alcohol are not supplied. Work in a ventilated room, as rosin fumes are irritating. If you've never soldered before, practise on a scrap board before opening a console you care about.
In the box
- 1 spool of lead-free flux-core solder wire, 50 g including the spool, in the diameter ordered.

The solder joint that gets a console running again
A handheld that no longer charges, a crackling headphone jack, a tired capacitor on a motherboard: in most cases, the fault is fixed with three solder joints, no more. That's the job this wire is for. The rosin core cleans the pad as the solder melts, and the joint forms without you having to keep the iron on it.
Seven diameters, one selection criterion
Diameter isn't a detail: it determines how much solder is deposited for every second of contact. With 0.5 and 0.6 mm, you can work on component leads and fine ribbon cables without flooding neighbouring traces. With 0.8 and 1.0 mm, you cover most console repairs. Beyond that, 1.2 to 2.0 mm are for power wires and large ground joints.
What you need alongside it
The wire alone isn't enough. You need a temperature-controlled iron, a clean tip, desoldering braid to redo a failed joint and isopropyl alcohol to remove rosin residue. None of this is in the box, and we'd rather say so before you buy. A scrap board to practise on will save you a lot of regrets.

Frequently Asked Questions
🔧 Is this wire suitable for a soldering beginner?
It works, but it isn't the easiest. A lead-free alloy melts at a higher temperature than tin-lead solder and gives a matt-looking joint that's harder to judge by eye. If you're just starting out, practise on a scrap board before opening a console you care about.
📏 Which diameter should you choose for a console motherboard?
0.6 or 0.8 mm covers the vast majority of console repairs: capacitors, connectors, headphone jacks. Keep 0.5 mm for the finest components, and 1.2 to 2.0 mm for power wires and large ground joints.
🌡️ What temperature should you set the iron to?
The melting point stated by the manufacturer is 227 °C. In practice you work well above that so the joint forms quickly, the exact value depending on the tip and the mass to be heated. Start low and work your way up rather than the other way round.
📦 How much wire is really on the spool?
The manufacturer states 50 g including the spool, so the usable weight of wire is less than 50 g. We don't have a confirmed net figure, and we'd rather not make one up.
🧪 Do you need to add flux?
Not for routine joints: the 2% flux core is enough. On an oxidised pad, delicate SMD work or a joint rework, a separate liquid flux is still useful. It isn't supplied.
🧰 Is the soldering iron included?
No. The box contains only the spool in the diameter ordered. You'll need to provide the iron, tip, stand, desoldering braid and cleaning product yourself.
🚚 What are the delivery times?
Delivery in 10 to 18 days, ships within 3 to 5 days.
🛡️ Which guarantee applies?
2-year legal guarantee of conformity. 14-day returns. French customer service, reply within 1 business day.

It is a fair question. Here is the answer, straight.
Every listing is checked before publication: real compatibility, material, dimensions, box contents. Many models never make it into the catalogue.
A question about compatibility, a fit problem, a return: you write, a human replies within 1 business day. In French.
The 2-year legal warranty of conformity is handled by us — not by a form on the other side of the world. And 14 days to change your mind, with no need to justify yourself.
