Tube seringue de flux de soudure à la colophane KEK 559 avec son embout applicateur fin
Description complète

KEK 559 flux: solder takes hold on the first try

A rework joint that beads up, a pad you heat for too long, a connector that refuses to let go: nine times out of ten, flux is missing. This rosin paste removes the oxide the moment the heat arrives, so the solder wets the copper instead of rolling over it. It's the basic consumable for recapping, fitting an IPS screen and any charging port rework on a console board.

What it does

  • Immediate wetting: the solder spreads and shines instead of forming dull balls, and cold joints disappear.
  • Desoldering with braid: a dab of flux on a row of pins and the braid soaks up the solder without lifting the pad.
  • Tacky paste, not liquid: it stays where you put it, even under the airflow of a hot air station.
  • Two sizes: 10 ml for a one-off repair, 30 ml for working through board after board.

What it doesn't do

  • This is not solder paste. Despite the manufacturer's label, this product contains no solder: you need solder wire or solder balls alongside it.
  • You need to clean up afterwards — isopropyl alcohol and a brush. Rosin residue is sticky and holds dust.
  • It won't make up for an underpowered iron or an oxidised tip: flux is no substitute for the right temperature.
  • It won't fix a lifted pad or a cut trace — for that, you need a jumper wire.

Compatibility

Universal: home console and handheld console motherboards, power supplies, connectors, charging ports, SMD and through-hole components. Works with both leaded and lead-free solder, with an iron or a hot air station. It isn't a console-specific product, so no revision is excluded.

Skill level required

This is a workshop consumable: it assumes you already have a soldering iron and solder wire. No cutting, no special disassembly. Keep something on hand to clean off the residue (isopropyl alcohol, anti-static brush) and work in a ventilated room — rosin smokes when heated.

Why your solder joints bead up

On a console board that's twenty or thirty years old, the copper is oxidised and so is the original solder. You apply heat, the solder melts, but it stays in a ball and refuses to spread: that's oxide, not a fault with your iron. Flux dissolves this layer during the few seconds the tip is in contact. The drop suddenly flattens and the joint turns shiny. It's the difference between a repair that holds for ten years and a cold joint that will give way at the first knock.

A tacky flux, not a liquid flux

The 559 comes as a paste, not a liquid: you apply it with a toothpick or a spatula and it stays where you put it. That's what makes it usable with a hot air station, where a liquid flux would be blown away before the component even moves. The rosin it contains is mild and doesn't attack the board's solder mask. The 10 ml tube is more than enough for one repair; the 30 ml tube is for those who do one recap after another.

What you need alongside it

Flux isn't enough on its own: you'll need solder wire, desoldering braid and something to clean up with afterwards. Rosin residue isn't corrosive, but it's sticky and picks up dust — a wipe of isopropyl alcohol with an anti-static brush once the board has cooled, and you're done. Work in a ventilated room, as rosin smokes when heated. Listing verified on 19 August 2026; if you're unsure about the size or the use, our French customer service replies within 1 business day.

Frequently Asked Questions

🔧 What exactly does this flux do?

It removes the oxide layer on the copper and on the solder as they heat up. The result: the solder wets the pad and spreads instead of beading up. That's what separates a shiny joint from a cold joint.

🧪 Is this solder paste with solder in it?

No. The original label is misleading: this is a rosin flux with no solder. It's used with solder wire or solder balls, not instead of them.

🎮 Which consoles and components is it compatible with?

All of them. It's a universal consumable: home console and handheld console motherboards, connectors, charging ports, IPS screens, SMD and through-hole components. It works with both leaded and lead-free solder.

🧼 Do you need to clean up after use?

Yes. Rosin residue is sticky and holds dust. A wipe with isopropyl alcohol and an anti-static brush is enough, once the board has cooled down.

📦 What's in the box?

One tube of KEK 559 flux, 10 ml or 30 ml depending on the variant chosen. Nothing else: no solder wire, no braid, no dispensing needle.

🧰 Which size should you choose?

10 ml for a one-off repair — a charging port, a screen, a controller. 30 ml if you work through board after board or do recapping in batches.

🚚 What are the delivery times?

Delivery in 10 to 18 days, ships within 3 to 5 days.

🛡️ Which guarantee applies?

2-year legal guarantee of conformity. 14-day returns. French customer service, reply within 1 business day.
