Internal HDMI kit for Wii: a direct digital output to the TV
The Wii only outputs analogue video, component at best, composite most of the time, and a modern TV turns that into a soft picture. This Hispeedido internal HDMI kit is soldered onto the motherboard, taps the console's digital signal and outputs it in 480p or 1080p, adjustable from an OSD menu. It is intended for a hobbyist comfortable with a soldering iron.
What it does
- 480p or 1080p output: a choice of six picture formats, three in 480p and three in 1080p.
- Built-in OSD menu: three video modes (soft, standard, vivid), Bob, Weave or adaptive deinterlacing, adjustment of picture position and size.
- Digital-to-digital conversion: the signal is taken before the console's analogue stage, not after.
What it doesn't do
- It cannot be installed without soldering: the boards and the ribbon cable are soldered onto the Wii motherboard.
- It does not make games more detailed: the Wii renders its images at 480p at most, and 1080p is an upscale of that signal.
- The OSD menu only opens with a GameCube controller plugged in, and many Wii games disable that controller: make your settings before launching a game.
- It does not work on the Wii mini.
- No printed manual is supplied: the installation guide is available on request from our customer service.
Compatibility
All home Wii consoles according to the manufacturer, except the Wii mini. Models without GameCube controller ports cannot open the OSD menu: the picture is then output with the default settings. The kit is not for the Wii U or the GameCube.
Skill level required
Advanced. You need to fully disassemble the Wii (tri-wing and Phillips screwdrivers), solder the ribbon cable and the boards with a fine-tip iron and flux, then check with a multimeter that there is no short circuit before powering on for the first time. Depending on where you place the HDMI port, cutting the shell may be necessary. Check your installation before closing it up: once soldered, the kit is no longer in its original condition.

The job: taking the Wii out of analogue
Connected via composite to a modern TV, the Wii gives a smeared picture. You open the console, solder the kit's ribbon cable and boards onto the motherboard, fit the HDMI port, check with a multimeter, then close it up. The console then outputs a clean digital signal, in 480p or upscaled to 1080p.
