Internal HDMI kit for N64: the console connected digitally to a modern TV
The N64 only outputs analogue video, and its already soft picture becomes downright blurry over composite on a flat screen. This Hispeedido internal HDMI kit is soldered onto the motherboard, takes the console's digital signal and outputs it through a mini-HDMI port, stated as 720p by the manufacturer. An OSD menu sets the format and colours. This is an installation for an experienced hobbyist: fine soldering and cutting of the shell.
What it does
- Digital-to-digital conversion: the signal is taken from the motherboard, before the analogue stage.
- Built-in OSD menu: three picture formats and eight colour modes.
- Mini-HDMI port: a mini-HDMI adapter is supplied for the connection.
What it doesn't do
- It cannot be installed without soldering: the ribbon cable is soldered directly onto a pin of the graphics chip.
- It cannot be installed without cutting: a square opening for the mini-HDMI port must be made in the shell.
- It adds no detail to games: the image rendered by the N64 stays the same, it is simply transmitted digitally.
- Special editions of the N64 with a specific motherboard are not covered.
- No printed manual is supplied: the installation guide is available on request from our customer service.
Compatibility
Standard N64. Special editions whose motherboard differs from the standard model are not covered: if in doubt, send us a photo of your motherboard before ordering. The “variant 2” versions correspond to a second supplier reference: write to us before choosing and we will tell you which one suits your console.
Skill level required
Expert. You need to open the N64 (4.5 mm security screwdriver), remove the shielding and the heatsink, solder the ribbon cable onto the graphics chip with a very fine-tip iron, check with a multimeter that there is no bridge between the pins, then cut the shell for the port. Never leave the console switched on for more than one minute without its heatsink. Once soldered, the kit is no longer in its original condition: check every step before closing it up.

The job: a digital N64, at the cost of a real intervention
You open the console, remove the shielding and heatsink, solder the ribbon cable onto the graphics chip, check with a multimeter, cut the opening for the port in the shell, then refit the heatsink before any extended test. The result: an N64 that connects over HDMI, without an external box at the back.
