Game Boy Advance SP internal HDMI kit: the same console, on the TV
A Game Boy Advance SP has no video output. This Hispeedido internal HDMI kit is installed inside the console, alongside an IPS V2 screen, and sends picture and sound to a TV via HDMI. It is aimed at modders comfortable with fine soldering who want to keep a portable SP and connect it in the living room.
What it does
- HDMI output: the console's picture goes to the TV, sound included, at 720 × 480.
- Hot-plugging: the supplied micro-HDMI to HDMI cable can be plugged in and unplugged without interrupting the game.
- Console still portable: the SP's screen stays in use, you play handheld, and in the living room whenever you like.
What it doesn't do
- It does not include the IPS V2 screen: it must already be installed, or ordered separately.
- It does not output 1080p: the output resolution is 720 × 480, and the TV handles the upscaling.
- It does not turn the SP into a wireless home console: you play with the console in hand, cable connected.
- It is not suitable for the original Game Boy Advance, the Game Boy Micro or DS consoles.
- Installation requires cutting the shell and fine soldering: this is not a beginner's kit.
Compatibility
Game Boy Advance SP, models AGS-001 and AGS-101, fitted with the Hispeedido IPS V2 screen. With another IPS screen, fitting is not guaranteed. Not compatible with the original Game Boy Advance, the Game Boy Micro or DS consoles.
Skill level required
Advanced level. Complete disassembly of the console (tri-wing and Phillips screwdrivers), cutting the shell to house the connector, soldering fine wires onto the motherboard, and fitting a ribbon cable whose length leaves little margin. Have a fine-tip soldering iron, flux and a precision cutting tool.

The job: opening up a video output
The SP never had a TV output. You open the console, cut the shell for the connector, solder a few fine wires and fit the ribbon cable. Once closed again, the console still plays handheld, and switches to the TV as soon as you plug in the cable.
