Haute42 M-Ultra Gen 2: the aluminium hitbox for fighting games
In competitive fighting games, the lever has given way to buttons. The Haute42 M-Ultra Gen 2 is a leverless controller with 16 buttons in an aluminium case, for players who want a heavy, stable controller on their lap as well as on a table. Hot-swappable Kailh switches, RGB backlighting, detachable USB-C cable.
What it does
- Aluminium case: stiffer and heavier than a plastic or acrylic case, it moves less while you play.
- 16 buttons with Kailh switches: switches rated for 40 million presses, hot-swappable without soldering.
- 1000 Hz polling rate: the controller reports the button state a thousand times per second.
- RGB backlighting: adjustable multicolour button lighting.
- Detachable USB-C cable: easy to replace and stored separately for transport.
What it doesn't do
- No lever: this is not a classic arcade stick, directions are played on buttons.
- Wired connection only: no Bluetooth, no battery.
- Xbox is not supported.
- Expect a real adjustment period if you are coming from a lever or a gamepad.

The motion: four fingers instead of a wrist
On a hitbox, left, down and right sit under the fingers of your left hand, and up sits under your thumb. Inputs are faster and above all more repeatable than on a lever, which explains its place in competitive fighting games. Allow a few hours to find your bearings.
