Description complète
GP2040 V5.6E board: the heart of a DIY hitbox or arcade stick
To build your own fight controller, you need a board that turns each button press into a command the computer or console recognises. The GP2040 V5.6E board from TicKnot is built on the RP2040 microcontroller and the GP2040 firmware, widely used by hitbox and arcade stick builders.
What it does
- RP2040 microcontroller: the chip that reads the buttons and talks to the machine over USB.
- GP2040 firmware: open-source firmware dedicated to fight controllers, configured from a web browser.
- USB passthrough port: an extra USB port on the board, managed by the firmware.
- Three versions: the board only, the cable set only, or the kit.
What it does not do
- The case, buttons, switches and lever are not included: this is a board to integrate into your own build.
- It is not a ready-to-use controller: you need to wire the buttons and configure the firmware.
- The “Cables only” version does not include the board.
Compatibility
Advertised platforms: PC, PS3, PS4 and Switch, depending on the mode selected in the GP2040 firmware. The board connects via USB.
Skill level
Intermediate: you need to wire each button to the board, then set the button mapping in the firmware from a web browser. You will need a case, buttons or switches, and a USB cable. The hitbox caps and switches in our Arcade sticks catalogue are suitable for this kind of build.
In the box
- Board only: 1 GP2040 V5.6E board.
- Cables only: the V5.6E cable set, without the board.
- Board kit: the V5.6E board and the kit version accessories, shown in its picture.

The project: building your own fight controller
A hitbox is a fight controller with no lever, where every direction goes through buttons. Many players build their own, in a 3D-printed or laser-cut case. This board is its heart: each button is wired to it, and it talks over USB to the computer or console.
The part: RP2040 and GP2040 firmware
TicKnot built this V5.6E revision around the RP2040, the Raspberry Pi Pico's microcontroller, with the GP2040 firmware used by a large part of the hitbox builder community. It adds a USB passthrough port. Three versions: board only, cables only or the kit.
Our help: the rest of the build
You will need a case, buttons or low-profile switches, caps and a USB cable. Our Arcade sticks section brings together switches and caps for hitboxes. A question about wiring or compatibility? Our customer service replies within one business day.
