Gangplank Keycaps: the compatibility question, settled
Before buying a keycap set, only one thing really matters: the shape of the stem under the cap. This one uses the MX cross stem, the most widespread standard in mechanical keyboards. In practice, if your keyboard's switch shows a small cross on top, the 12 Gangplank keys clip right onto it.
Compatible switch families
- Cherry MX: the historic benchmark, the one that made the cross the standard.
- Gateron: same stem geometry, same mounting.
- Kailh: compatible on cross-stem models.
- Outemu: very common on entry-level and mid-range gaming keyboards.
The thirty-second test
Pull off any key from your keyboard and look at what sticks out. A raised cross? You're on the right standard. A round stem, a flat rail or a scissor mechanism like on laptops? That type of keyboard isn't covered by the installation described here, whatever set you have your eye on.
What compatibility doesn't guarantee
The cross determines how the key holds mechanically, not the layout. On a keyboard with an unusual format, special keys may have manufacturer-specific widths: this set covers standard-size keys, the ones people most like to replace.
Gunpowder, rust and smuggled gold
The Pirate King sets the tone: dark red pushed toward burgundy, worn leather browns, the tarnished gold of ill-gotten coins and flashes of citrus orange, a nod to the fruit he puts to bad use. The PBT and its DYE-SUB printing give a matte, deep finish, far from glossy plastic.
Other cross-stem sets
The same warm reds on the Miss Fortune keycaps, blood and steel with the Draven keycaps, and an earthier take on the Renekton keycaps.
Two useful details
My keyboard is an unbranded model, will it work?
The brand doesn't matter much: it's the cross under the cap that decides. Check it, and the rest follows.
Can I mix this set with my current keys?
Yes, that's actually the most common use: the 12 keys accent an existing keyboard rather than replacing it entirely.

Bilgewater fits on twelve keys
Gangplank no longer rules Bilgewater, but he never gave the tricorne back. The set picks up that harbour register: weathered wood, worn leather, the tarnished gold of powder and coins, and the orange smear of the citrus he bites into before smashing something. Warm, muted colours rather than neon: on a black keyboard they add heat without clashing, on a wood or dark grey case they almost look factory-fitted. A set for the patient top laner, the one who plants his barrels ten seconds early and prefers a desk that looks lived-in to a desk that blinks. The Gangplank artwork is an original design inspired by the League of Legends universe, with no connection to the game's publisher.
Dye-sublimated PBT: what the material holds
A warm, dark palette needs a surface that does not bounce light around: the 12 keycaps are moulded in PBT, denser than the ABS fitted as standard on most keyboards, and start out with a matte grain. The pattern is dye-sublimated: under heat the dye enters the material instead of sitting on top of it. No raised layer, no edge that can chip, and the legend does not fade before the key itself does. Mounting is on MX cross-stems: Cherry MX, Gateron, Kailh, Outemu. The OEM profile follows the row-by-row angle of pre-assembled keyboards, so each cap goes back on an equivalent row. The supplied puller works from above.
What the set does not do
A pirate harbour theme makes you want a whole matching keyboard: that is not this product. Twelve keys dress one area, they do not cover the keyboard, and keys with a manufacturer-specific width are left out. On a membrane keyboard or a keyboard with low-profile scissor-mechanism keys there is nothing to do: no MX cross-stem. On a keyboard built in the Cherry, XDA or SA profile the height will not sit right. And the gold does not light up: dye-sublimated PBT is opaque, light travels around the key instead of through the pattern. The Gangplank artwork is an original design inspired by the League of Legends universe, with no connection to the game's publisher: not a licensed product.
What this set contains

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this set fit my keyboard?
Pull off a cap and look at the switch: a raised cross means an MX cross-stem, and the keys clip straight onto it. That covers Cherry MX, Gateron, Kailh and Outemu. A membrane keyboard or one with low-profile scissor-mechanism keys does not qualify.
What exactly is in the box?
The stated contents are 12 keycaps and one puller. The keys are standard size and go wherever you want them; keys with a manufacturer-specific width are not covered.
Which keyboard suits this harbour palette?
The burnt browns and the tarnished gold are muted tones: they keep their contrast on a black or dark grey keyboard and settle into a wooden desk. On a white keyboard the whole thing looks busier and the contrast turns hard.
What does the artwork show?
The register is that of Bilgewater: tricorne, powder, citrus and worn metal, spread across the twelve keys. It is an original design, not a reproduction of an in-game visual.
How do I clean them?
A soft cloth, barely damp, is enough; avoid solvents. Because the pattern has entered the material through sublimation, rubbing does not remove it: nothing to peel off, nothing to protect.
Is this an official League of Legends product?
No. This is an illustration inspired by the League of Legends universe, with no connection to the game's publisher, and not a licensed product. These are ordinary keycaps.
