2.6" IPS screen for Game Boy Pocket: a backlit screen in the original size

The original screen of the Game Boy Pocket has no lighting: without a lamp or sunlight, you can no longer see anything, and ageing panels lose lines. This IPS panel of 2.6", in the size of the original screen, adds backlighting and wide viewing angles. It is offered without a lens or with a front lens of your choice.

What it does

• IPS backlighting: the image stays readable in the dark and from wide angles.
• Original size: the 2.6" panel matches the size stated as that of the original screen, for an installation presented as easy by the supplier.
• Choice of lens: no lens if you keep your own, or with a silver, white, pink, grey or black lens.

What it doesn't do

• It does not reproduce the look of the original screen: a backlit panel gives a more contrasted, more modern image.
• The backlighting uses more power: battery life is shorter than with the original screen.
• It is only suitable for the Game Boy Pocket: not the classic Game Boy, the Game Boy Color or the Game Boy Light.
• The No lens variant does not include a front lens: you need to reuse the console's own or provide one.

Compatibility

Game Boy Pocket. Not covered: the classic Game Boy, the Game Boy Color, the Game Boy Light and the Game Boy Advance, whose screens and shells are different.

Skill level required

Intermediate. Opening the console with a tri-wing screwdriver, removing the original screen, fitting the panel and connecting its ribbon cable, then reassembling and fitting the lens. Have a plastic spudger and a fine-tip soldering iron ready in case a connection needs to be redone on your board. Allow one hour for a first installation.
