Description complète
Game Boy Color button set: get a crisp feel back, no soldering
On a twenty-five-year-old Game Boy Color, the buttons are shiny, sometimes sticky, and the D-pad has lost its bite. This full set replaces the A and B buttons, the D-pad and Start/Select in one go. 15 colours to choose from, including several translucent ones to match a clear shell.
What it does
- Full set: A/B, D-pad, Start and Select — nothing else to find elsewhere.
- 15 colours: opaque or translucent, to get back the original shade or give it a whole new look.
- Fitting without soldering: once the shell is open, the buttons come out and go back in by hand.
What it doesn't do
- Conductive silicone pads are not supplied. If a button no longer responds, it's the pad or the circuit that needs attention, not the plastic.
- These are third-party buttons, not original parts: the shade may differ slightly from one shell to another.
- Not suitable for the Game Boy Advance, the GBA SP or the Game Boy Pocket: the button shape is different.
- Doesn't repair a cracked shell or a scratched screen lens — those are separate parts.
Compatibility
Game Boy Color (CGB-001) only. The supplier's listing also mentions the Game Boy Advance, GBA SP, Pocket and Light: the actual reference is "For GBC" and the button shape changes from one model to another, so we only list the Game Boy Color.
Skill level required
No soldering. You need to open the console with a 3.8 mm tri-wing screwdriver, remove the old buttons, then fit the new ones making sure the D-pad is the right way round. Allow twenty minutes: it's a good first mod to get your hand in.
In the box
- A and B buttons
- D-pad
- Start and Select buttons
- All in the colour of your choice. No silicone pads, screws or shell.

The job: twenty minutes, one screwdriver
A well-used Game Boy Color is easy to spot by its buttons: plastic polished by thumbs, rounded edges, a D-pad that catches on the diagonals. The replacement needs no soldering iron: you open the shell with a tri-wing screwdriver, remove the old buttons and fit the new ones. The front looks clean again and the press feels crisp. In terms of time spent, it's the most worthwhile job you can do on a handheld of this generation.
The part: fifteen colours, same dimensions
These are third-party buttons, moulded for the Game Boy Color: same dimensions, same travel as the originals. Fifteen colours are available, opaque or translucent, to go back to the factory shade or match the buttons to a clear shell. The shade may differ slightly from one batch of shells to another: we'd rather tell you before you buy. Conductive silicone pads are not part of the set.
Our support: the right diagnosis first
The only essential tool is a 3.8 mm tri-wing screwdriver, included in the disassembly kits in our catalogue. If a button stays silent after the swap, the problem lies with the conductive pads or the circuit, and we'll tell you so rather than sell you a second, useless part. Reply within 1 business day, in French. 2-year legal guarantee of conformity and 14-day returns.
