Game Boy Advance SP replacement shell: a brand-new exterior without breaking the bank
Every second-hand SP has the same flaw: a scratched lid and worn corners. This full shell replaces the entire exterior of the console for the price of a game. It is the entry-level option in our range: less refined than an eXtremeRate, but three times cheaper.
What it does
- Full shell: lid, front, back and screws.

What it doesn't do
- This is not an IPS-ready shell. The screen window has the original dimensions: to fit an IPS screen, you will need to cut it, or choose our pre-cut eXtremeRate shell.
- Entry-level fit: the moulding is decent, not flawless. Slight play around the lid is possible.
- No electronics or screen supplied.

Game Boy Advance SP (AGS-001 and AGS-101). Not suitable for the original GBA or the Micro.
Skill level required
No soldering. 3.8 mm tri-wing and Phillips screwdrivers. Allow 45 minutes; the delicate step is routing the screen ribbon cable through the hinge.

Nothing transforms a second-hand console like a new shell. A scratched lid and whitened corners make a machine look worn out; with the exterior replaced, the same SP looks fresh out of the box. For the price of a second-hand game, it's the most visually rewarding mod there is.
Entry-level, and we say so
This shell doesn't have the finish of an eXtremeRate, which costs twice as much: the moulding is decent, not flawless, and slight play around the lid is possible. Nor is it pre-cut for an IPS screen. For a simple refurbishment, it does the job very well.
Which of the two to choose
If you plan to fit an IPS screen one day, go for the pre-cut eXtremeRate shell: cutting by hand is the step that goes wrong. If you simply want to restore the look of a tired SP, this one is more than enough. Either way, a 3.8 mm tri-wing is required.
