Coque de remplacement complète pour Game Boy Advance SP, coques ouvertes avec jeu de boutons
Description complète

Complete Game Boy Advance SP shell: a tired console becomes presentable again

Cracked hinges, yellowed plastic, buttons that have gone shiny and mushy: the Game Boy Advance SP ages through its bodywork first, rarely through its electronics. This complete shell kit replaces the console's entire housing, buttons and screws included. The original motherboard and screen are kept: this is bodywork, not an electronic repair.

What it does

  • Full shell replacement: top half, bottom half, battery cover. A scratched or cracked console looks new again without changing machines.
  • New buttons supplied: A/B, D-pad, L/R shoulder buttons, Start and Select. The feel becomes crisp again and the markings are legible.
  • No soldering: reassembly is entirely mechanical, with a screwdriver and a spudger.
  • Seven colours: you choose the shell by colour, the reference is identical in every case.

What it doesn't do

  • Doesn't replace any electronic component: the motherboard, screen, ribbon cable and battery remain those of your console. A dead screen will still be dead after the operation.
  • No tools included. The tri-wing (Y) screwdriver for the outer screws and the Phillips screwdriver for the inner screws must be obtained separately.
  • Despite the “universal” label on the supplier's listing, this shell only fits the Game Boy Advance SP. It fits neither a standard Game Boy Advance nor a Game Boy Color.
  • Compatibility with an IPS screen kit isn't guaranteed: the cut-out of the lens and front shell still needs to be checked before ordering.
  • Third-party part, not an original shell: tolerances may require slight adjustment during reassembly.

Compatibility

Game Boy Advance SP, revisions AGS-001 (frontlight) and AGS-101 (backlight): both share the same chassis. Not suitable for the Game Boy Advance (AGB-001), the Game Boy Micro, the Game Boy Color, or any Android or Linux retro handheld console.

Skill level required

Full disassembly, no soldering. You need to open the console, carefully disconnect the screen ribbon cable, transfer the motherboard and screen assembly into the new shell, then screw everything back together. Allow 30 to 45 minutes for someone who has already opened a handheld, longer the first time. Have a tri-wing (Y) screwdriver, a fine Phillips screwdriver and a plastic spudger ready.

  • 1 battery cover
  • 1 complete set of buttons (A/B, D-pad, L/R, Start, Select)

A console that's been through a lot, a shell that can't keep up

The Game Boy Advance SP is more than twenty years old. What gives out first is almost never the electronics: it's the hinge that cracks, the translucent plastic that yellows, the battery cover that no longer clips in. The console still works perfectly, but you no longer feel like taking it out. Replacing the bodywork solves the problem for the price of an accessory, without touching what gives the machine its value.

A third-party shell, and we say so

This kit isn't an original part: it's a third-party shell, moulded to the SP's dimensions and supplied with a complete set of buttons and its screws. In practice the fit is good, but the tolerances of a third-party mould aren't those of a factory part — a screw to retighten or a hinge that's a little stiff at first are part of the deal. It's the normal compromise at this price, and it's better to know before ordering than after.

What to have ready before opening the console

The kit contains no tools. You need a Y-type tri-wing screwdriver for the outer screws, a fine Phillips screwdriver for the inside and a plastic spudger to open it without marking the edges. The job takes 30 to 45 minutes and requires no soldering; the only tricky step is the screen ribbon cable, which must be disconnected and reconnected without forcing. If you're also fitting an IPS screen, check the front shell's cut-out first.

Frequently Asked Questions

🔧 Do I need to solder to install this shell?

No. The replacement is entirely mechanical: you unscrew, transfer the motherboard and screen assembly, and screw it back together. No soldering iron is needed.

🎮 Which Game Boy Advance SP models does it fit?

Both revisions, AGS-001 (frontlight) and AGS-101 (backlight), which share the same chassis. This shell doesn't fit a standard Game Boy Advance, a Game Boy Micro or a Game Boy Color.

✂️ Do I need to cut anything?

Not for a stock rebuild: the shell is moulded to the console's dimensions. However, compatibility with an IPS screen kit isn't guaranteed and may require cutting, to be checked before ordering.

📦 What's in the box?

The front and back shells, the battery cover, a complete set of buttons, a screen protection lens and the screws. The exact contents of the kit are still to be confirmed with the manufacturer.

🧰 What tools do I need?

A tri-wing (Y) screwdriver for the outer screws, a fine Phillips screwdriver for the inner screws and a plastic spudger to open the shell without marking the edges. No tools are supplied with the kit.

⏱️ How long does the job take?

Between 30 and 45 minutes if you've already opened a handheld console. Allow longer the first time: the screen ribbon cable is the only step that really requires patience.

🚚 What are the delivery times?

Delivery in 10 to 18 days, ships within 3 to 5 days.

🛡️ What warranty applies?

2-year legal guarantee of conformity. 14-day returns. French customer service, reply within 1 business day.
