Description complète
3-inch IPS screen for Game Boy Advance SP: a readable image without hunting for the right light
The original panel of the Game Boy Advance SP is twenty years old: flat contrast, dull colours, and that habit of only displaying well at one precise angle. This 3-inch IPS panel replaces it as part of a modding project: a brighter image, stable colours, and good readability head-on as well as at an angle. This is a spare part, not a ready-to-play console.
What it does
- IPS panel: wide viewing angles and colours that don't wash out when you tilt the console.
- Brightness: far higher than the SP's original panel, including outdoors or in low light.
- Display area: 3 inches, versus 2.9 inches on the original screen — the image takes up a little more space.
- Laminated version (dedicated variant): lens bonded to the panel, fewer internal reflections and an image that seems to sit right on the surface.
What it doesn't do
- Does not improve the original resolution: the console outputs 240 × 160 pixels, and the panel displays that image without upscaling it.
- Does not fit an original shell without adaptation: the SP's screen opening is cut for a smaller panel. Plan for a shell designed for 3-inch panels, or a clean cut.
- Not suitable for any other machine: not the original Game Boy Advance, the Game Boy Color, the Game Boy Micro or the DS.
- Contains no console, shell, protective lens, battery or disassembly tools.
- The stated colour applies to the part, not the console: it changes nothing about the display.
Compatibility
Kit designed for the Game Boy Advance SP only. The supplier does not distinguish between the machine's two revisions (AGS-001 with a front-lit screen, AGS-101 backlit): open the console and note the motherboard reference before ordering. No compatibility stated outside the SP.
Skill level required
Intermediate level. You need to fully open the console (Y0 tri-wing and PH00 Phillips screwdrivers), remove the original screen and handle a thin ribbon cable without folding it. Depending on the kit and the motherboard revision, a solder point may be required: have a soldering iron ready if you are not sure how it fits. If this is your first disassembly, practise first on a console you don't depend on.
In the box
- 1 IPS panel, 3 inches, with its ribbon cable, in the chosen colour.
- The supplier does not specify any other contents: assume that the shell, lens and tools are not supplied.

The idea: making an SP readable
An original Game Boy Advance SP is played while hunting for the right light: the screen is dark, the colours are dull and the contrast collapses as soon as you tilt the console. Replacing the panel is the most visible mod you can make on this machine: the console is the same, the image is not. In practice, you open the shell, remove the original screen and fit an IPS panel in its place. Allow a good hour for a first installation, less afterwards.
The part: 3 inches, laminated or not
This panel measures 3 inches, slightly more than the original screen's 2.9 inches: the image gains area, but the shell opening has to follow. The laminated version, sold as a separate variant, bonds the lens directly to the panel: fewer internal reflections and an image that appears to sit on the surface. The other variants differ only in the colour of the part and display exactly the same image. So the choice comes down to finish, not display quality.
What we tell you before you buy
We have not fitted this kit ourselves: this listing was verified on 19 August 2026 using the supplier's information, and we don't claim to know more. Two points remain for you to check: your motherboard revision, which the supplier does not specify, and the shell, which must accept a 3-inch panel. If either doesn't match, don't buy this item. If in doubt, write to us before ordering: reply within 1 business day.

Frequently Asked Questions
🔧 Do I need to solder to install this panel?
Most IPS kits for the Game Boy Advance SP connect via ribbon cable, without soldering. Depending on your motherboard revision and the kit you receive, a solder point may still be needed: have a soldering iron ready if you are not sure how it fits.
🎮 Which consoles is it compatible with?
Only the Game Boy Advance SP. Not the original Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Micro or DS. The supplier does not distinguish between the AGS-001 and AGS-101 revisions: note your motherboard reference before ordering.
✂️ Do I need to cut the shell?
Yes, unless you are using a shell already designed for a 3-inch panel. The original screen opening is cut for the 2.9 inches of the factory panel: without an adapted shell, you need to widen the opening cleanly.
📦 What's in the box?
1 IPS panel, 3 inches, with its ribbon cable, in the chosen colour. The supplier does not specify any other contents: assume that the shell, protective lens, battery and tools are not supplied.
🧰 What tools do I need?
A Y0 tri-wing screwdriver for the outer screws, a PH00 Phillips for the inside, a thin plastic spudger and something to clean the lens. None of this is included in the parcel.
⏱️ What is the difference between the laminated version and the others?
The laminated version bonds the lens directly to the panel: fewer internal reflections and an image that seems flush with the surface. The other variants only change the colour of the part; the display is identical.
🚚 What are the delivery times?
Delivery in 10 to 18 days, ships within 3 to 5 days.
🛡️ Which guarantee applies?
2-year legal guarantee of conformity. 14-day returns. French customer service, reply within 1 business day.
