24-pin FFC/FPC ribbon cable: replacing the flexible link that gave up
On a handheld console that has been opened ten times, the flexible ribbon linking the screen or the daughterboard to the mainboard ends up cracking at the fold, or losing a contact. This FFC/FPC ribbon cable with a 0.5 mm pitch and 24 pins comes in 25 lengths from 25 to 600 mm and in both contact orientations. You replace the worn part without soldering anything.
What it does
- 0.5 mm pitch, 24 positions: the ribbon slots into slide-type or flip-type ZIF connectors of this format, very common on handheld console boards, LCD panels and daughterboards.
- Two contact orientations: "same side" (contacts on the same face at both ends) or "opposite" (contacts on opposite faces). It is the receiving connector that dictates the choice.
- 25 lengths available: from 25 mm for a short link between two neighbouring boards to 600 mm for a test bench or a remote screen.
- Solder-free installation: open the connector latch, pull out the old ribbon, insert the new one, close it again.
What it doesn't do
- It is not an original part for a specific console model: it is a generic ribbon cable. We guarantee no manufacturer compatibility — it is up to you to measure the ribbon you are replacing before ordering.
- It does not replace a ribbon soldered, glued or crimped onto the board: only links with a ZIF connector are concerned.
- It does not adapt to another pitch or another pin count. A 24-pin ribbon cannot be cut down cleanly to 20 or 16 pins.
- The contact orientation is not reversible: a "same side" ribbon cannot replace an "opposite" one without a poor contact or a reversed pinout.
- No shielding: this ribbon is not intended for critical high-frequency signals or for high current.
Compatibility
Any FFC/FPC connector with a 0.5 mm pitch and 24 positions. Before ordering, note three things on the original ribbon: the pitch between two tracks (0.5 mm), the number of conductors (24) and the overall length in millimetres, end to end. Also check which side the gold contacts are on at each end. A ribbon with another pitch (0.3 mm, 1.0 mm) or another pin count will not do, even if the width looks close.
Skill required
Beginner. No soldering. You need to open the machine's shell (Phillips, tri-wing or Y00 screwdriver depending on the model), a thin spudger or a guitar pick to unclip it, and a lot of care with the ZIF connector latch: it is the most fragile part of the job. Allow 10 to 20 minutes, disassembly included. A caliper or a metal ruler is useful for measuring the length before you buy.

The ribbon cable is often the culprit
A flickering screen, a dead D-pad, an SD card that mounts only every other time: before blaming the chip, turn the ribbon over. On a machine opened several times, the flexible link takes a fold in the same place and a track eventually cracks. The fault is intermittent, it comes back once the shell is closed, and it costs a few cents to fix. Replacing the ribbon is the first diagnostic step, not the last.
Three figures to note, nothing more
An FFC ribbon is chosen on three figures: the pitch between tracks, the number of conductors and the length. Here it is 0.5 mm and 24 pins, a very common format on handheld console boards and LCD panels. That leaves the length, to be measured flat on the original part, and the side the gold contacts are on at each end. Once those four readings are taken, the variant to order is obvious.
What we don't promise you
We publish no list of compatible consoles for this part, and that is deliberate: a generic ribbon is listed by no manufacturer, and claiming otherwise would have you ordering blind. The check is yours to make, and it takes one pass with a ruler. In exchange, if the variant you receive does not match what was described, 14-day returns apply and our French-speaking customer service replies within 1 business day.

Frequently Asked Questions
📏 How do I know which length to order?
Measure the original ribbon from one end to the other, in millimetres, laid flat. It is that overall length you need to find in the list of variants. 25 lengths are offered, from 25 to 600 mm.
🔄 « Same side » or « opposite », how do I choose?
Look at which side the gold contacts are on at each end of the original ribbon. If they are on the same face at both ends, take « same side ». If they are on opposite faces, take « opposite ». The two are not interchangeable.
🔧 Do I need to solder to fit this ribbon?
No. The ribbon slots into a ZIF connector: open the latch, pull out the old one, slide in the new one with the contacts facing the right way, close the latch again. No soldering, no flux.
🎮 Is it compatible with my console?
It is a generic ribbon, not an original part listed machine by machine. It suits any FFC/FPC connector with a 0.5 mm pitch and 24 positions. We publish no list of consoles: measure the ribbon you are replacing, that is the only reliable check.
🧰 Which tools do I need?
A screwdriver matching your shell (Phillips, tri-wing or Y00), a thin spudger or a guitar pick to unclip it, and flat-tipped tweezers to handle the ribbon. A metal ruler or a caliper to measure before ordering.
⏱️ How long does the replacement take?
10 to 20 minutes, counting taking the shell apart and putting it back together. The delicate part is not the ribbon but the connector latch, which must be opened without forcing: once broken, the connector has to be replaced with a soldering iron.
🚚 What are the delivery times?
Delivery in 10 to 18 days, ships within 3 to 5 days.
🛡️ What guarantee applies?
2-year legal guarantee of conformity. 14-day returns. French customer service, reply within 1 business day.
