5X magnifier helping hand: the board holds itself while you solder
Resoldering a Game Boy save battery, replacing a swollen capacitor, repairing a torn-off trace: the problem is almost never the iron, it's holding the board, the wire and the iron with two hands. This FEITA TE-805 stand locks the part in adjustable crocodile clips and places a 5X magnifier right above the solder joint.
What it does
- 5X magnification: read silkscreen markings, spot a cold joint, line up a component leg without guessing.
- Adjustable crocodile clips: the board stays at the angle you want, both hands stay on the iron and the solder.
- Universal workbench tool: motherboard, controller, cable, connector — nothing to adapt, nothing to set up.
What it doesn't do
- It does not replace a micro-soldering microscope: 5X is fine for through-hole components and common SMD parts, not for BGA or 0201 packages.
- No lighting is advertised by the manufacturer for this model: plan for a workshop lamp.
- No soldering iron, solder, flux or desoldering braid in the box.
- The crocodile clips leave marks: put a piece of sleeving or cloth in between on a painted shell or fragile plastic.
- It is not a vice: it holds a board and small parts, not a whole console or a heavy item.
Compatibility
A workbench tool, independent of the machine: nothing plugs in, no electrical compatibility is involved. It holds a Game Boy Advance motherboard just as well as a PS1 drive, a controller harness, a connector or a cable to be resoldered. However, it is not sized to hold a complete console.
Skill level required
No assembly: the stand is used as is, and the arms are positioned by hand. It is, however, a soldering accessory and assumes you know how to handle an iron. You will need a temperature-controlled iron, solder, desoldering braid and the right screwdriver for your machine — tri-wing for vintage Nintendo handhelds, Torx for many controllers.

- 1 magnifier stand (5X) with articulated arms and crocodile clips

Two hands on the iron
On a retro workbench, the hard part isn't the soldering: it's the geometry. A Game Boy board that slides, a 0.5 mm wire that moves, and the iron tip comes in at an angle. The crocodile clips hold the part still at the angle you choose, and the magnifier stays in place above the work point. Your two hands are left to do what they do best: the iron on one side, the solder on the other.
What 5X magnification changes
To the naked eye, a cold joint looks like a clean joint and a cracked trace looks like an intact one. At 5X, the difference jumps out: the dull ball of solder, the solder bridge between two legs, the capacitor marking you thought was unreadable. It's the useful magnification for through-hole components and common SMD parts in 8-bit and 16-bit consoles. Beyond that, for BGA, you need a stereo microscope — best to say so right away.
What we tell you before you buy
This product is a holding stand, not a complete workstation. Nothing that heats up is supplied: no iron, no solder, no flux. The manufacturer does not advertise any built-in lighting, so plan for an adjustable lamp. Finally, the clip jaws bite into plastic: on a painted shell, put a piece of sleeving or cloth in between.
