DS Lite screen lens: get rid of scratches without changing the display

On a well-used DS Lite, it isn't always the screens that are damaged: it's the plastic lens in front of them and the frame around the bottom screen. Scratches, hairline cracks, yellowed plastic — the picture looks dull even though the display is perfectly fine. This set of replacement parts gives the console a clear surface again, in tinted plastic in your choice of colour, without a single solder joint.

What it does

• Makes the picture clear: the top screen lens replaces the scratched or cracked one, without touching the LCD panel.
• Puts the bottom frame back in line: the surround of the touchscreen sits properly again after disassembly or a fall.
• Eight colours: black, white, red, orange, yellow, green, pink and light blue, to stay original or match a custom shell.
• No soldering: just disassembly and repositioning.

What it doesn't do

• This is not a screen: no LCD panel, no touch glass, no ribbon cable. A dead screen stays dead after the job.
• It doesn't fix a miscalibrated touchscreen or a dead pixel — those are other parts.
• Part designed for the DS Lite (USG-001) only: it doesn't fit the original DS, the DSi, the DSi XL or a 3DS.
• The supplier doesn't specify whether the mounting adhesive is included: have some spare thin double-sided tape ready.
• It's plastic, not glass: the surface remains prone to scratches, exactly like the original part.

Compatibility

Compatible with the DS Lite (model USG-001), all shell colours. Not compatible with the original DS (NTR-001), the DSi, the DSi XL, the 3DS or the New 3DS, whose frames and cut-outs are different. Check the model number on the back of your console before ordering.

Skill level required

Full disassembly of the casing, no soldering. Have a tri-wing screwdriver (Y00) for the outer screws, a fine Phillips screwdriver (PH000) for the internal screws, a plastic spudger and something to keep the screws in. Allow 30 to 45 minutes if you've already opened a handheld console, a little longer the first time. The top screen's ribbon cable runs through the hinge: that's the tricky part of the job, so handle it without forcing.
