DS Lite battery: bring back the battery life of a 2006 console
A DS Lite that only lasts a handful of minutes, or switches off as soon as you unplug the charger, is almost never dead: it's its lithium-ion battery that has aged. This 3.7 V replacement cell matches the original format, fits without soldering and the screwdriver is included to open the cover. Available individually or in packs.
What it does
- Direct replacement: the cell matches the format of the DS Lite's compartment, with the same contacts and the same fitting direction.
- No soldering: the battery cover is held by a single screw, and the console's shell stays closed.

What it doesn't do
- The 2000 mAh is the capacity stated by the manufacturer, not measured on our side. Expect decent battery life again, not double that of a new console back in the day.
- Only suitable for the DS Lite. Neither the first-generation DS, the DSi, the DSi XL, the 3DS nor the Switch uses this format — the “Switch” mention seen on some retailer listings is a translation error.
- It won't fix a broken charging port, a damaged ribbon cable or a motherboard that no longer charges: in those cases, changing the battery won't be enough.
- Third-party compatible cell, not an original manufacturer part.
Compatibility
Nintendo DS Lite (NDSL / DSL), all shell colours. Not compatible with the original DS (the 2004 “brick”), the DSi, the DSi XL, the 3DS, the New 3DS, the 2DS or the Switch: their batteries have neither the same format nor the same connectors. If in doubt, check that the back of your console says DS Lite.

The job: five minutes, one screw
A 2006 DS Lite has twenty years of charging behind it, and a lithium-ion battery doesn't age well: it swells, it loses voltage, and the console switches off without warning. The fix comes down to one simple job. With the console off, undo the single screw on the cover at the back, take out the old cell, fit the new one the same way round and screw the cover back on. No spudger, no soldering iron, no shell to open.

And if the console doesn't charge at all, the problem often lies with the charging port, not the cell.
