Hinge shaft: the part that keeps the screen upright again
On a DS Lite, DSi or 3DS with twenty years of service behind it, the hinge is the first part to give way: the screen becomes floppy, no longer holds its angle, and the plastic ends up cracking around the shaft. This replacement shaft replaces the original part and gives the console back its ability to stay open. One variant per machine: choose yours before adding to your basket.
What it does
- Restores screen hold: the new shaft brings back the original friction, so the screen holds the position you choose again.
- One part per model: DS Lite, DSi, 3DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS, New 3DS XL and Game Boy Advance SP do not use the same shaft.
- Fitted without soldering: everything is done with a screwdriver, by taking the shell apart. No soldering iron.
What it doesn't do
- It does not repair a shell that is already cracked around the hinge: if the plastic is broken, you also need a replacement shell or faceplate.
- It replaces neither the screen ribbon cable nor the antenna wires that run through the hinge — those are separate parts.
- It covers neither the original DS ("Phat") nor the 2DS: they are not in the list of variants.

Compatibility

The fix: straightening a screen that flops
The screen tips over on its own as soon as you tilt the console, then stays open at any old angle: the hinge shaft has lost its friction. You open the shell, remove the old shaft, fit the new one, and the machine regains the firmness it had when it left the factory. It is the most common repair on a collectible DS Lite or 3DS.
The part: one shaft per machine, nothing universal
