Description complète
ESD anti-static brush: dust a motherboard without zapping it
An opened retro console always looks the same: dust packed between the capacitors, flux residue around the pads, a grimy cartridge connector. An ordinary paintbrush builds up charge through friction and releases it onto the components. This brush with anti-static bristles is used over a bare PCB and is just as useful for post-soldering cleanup as for routine maintenance of a collector's machine.
What it does
- Two heads on a single handle: one end to sweep dry dust off a large area, the other to reach narrow spaces between components.
- Anti-static bristles: designed to limit charge build-up while brushing, which a nylon household brush does not do.
- Post-soldering cleanup: dislodges softened flux residue and bits of desoldering braid around the pads.
- Workbench size: short handle, fits in a tool pouch next to your screwdrivers and opening tools.
What it doesn't do
- This is not an anti-static wrist strap. The brush limits charge while you work, it does not ground the board: for sensitive work, keep your earthed wrist strap on.
- It does not dissolve anything. Hardened flux and traces of corrosion require isopropyl alcohol; the brush only does the mechanical work.
- It does not replace a blower bulb or a can of compressed air for dust lodged under a heatsink or a shield.
- Avoid using it on screens: the bristles mark anti-glare coatings and polarising films.
- The supplier does not provide the bristle length, measured resistivity or brand. These values are therefore not on the listing: we do not make them up.
Compatibility
Motherboards and bare PCBs of retro consoles (Game Boy, Mega Drive, Nintendo 64, PlayStation, Dreamcast, Saturn…), modern handheld consoles opened up for a screen or battery replacement, disassembled controllers, cartridge connectors, mechanical keyboards and expansion cards. Not covered: LCD panels, protective glass, painted or varnished shells and anything still powered.
Skill level required
None. No soldering, no cutting the shell, no special disassembly beyond opening the machine. Work with the console switched off, unplugged and with the battery disconnected. Brush from the centre outwards so you don't push dust under the shields, then finish with a cotton bud soaked in isopropyl alcohol on greasy areas. It complements a set of precision screwdrivers and opening tools.
In the box
- 1 double-headed anti-static brush, in the selected style.
- No consumables, no cleaning product: the brush is sold on its own.

The dust you don't dare touch
A Mega Drive opened after twenty years means a grey carpet between the capacitors and a dull cartridge connector. You hesitate to blow on it, and even more to run a paintbrush over it that will pick up charge through friction. The anti-static brush takes care of exactly that moment: you sweep, the dust goes, the board takes no charge. The rest of the cleaning, hardened flux and traces of corrosion, is then done with isopropyl alcohol.
Two heads rather than a paintbrush
An artist's paintbrush costs less, but its nylon bristles pick up charge through friction and its handle has no dissipative properties. This brush is sold for electronics: anti-static bristles, two differently shaped ends on a single handle. The second head is for places the wide bristles cannot reach, between two rows of components or inside a cartridge slot.
What it doesn't replace
An anti-static brush is not complete ESD protection. It limits charge build-up while brushing, it does not ground the board. For desoldering a chip or working on a motherboard, an earthed wrist strap remains essential, and the brush comes after. It is a useful, inexpensive workshop tool, not safety equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions
🧹 What is an anti-static brush used for on a console?
For removing dry dust and flux residue from an opened motherboard, without building up charge on the components the way an ordinary paintbrush would.
⚡ Does it replace an anti-static wrist strap?
No. The brush limits charge while brushing, it does not connect the board to earth. For sensitive work, keep your ESD wrist strap on.
🎮 Which devices can I use it on?
Motherboards and PCBs of retro and handheld consoles, disassembled controllers, cartridge connectors, mechanical keyboards. Avoid using it on LCD panels and painted surfaces.
🧴 Do I need a cleaning product as well?
Yes, for hardened flux and greasy marks: isopropyl alcohol and cotton buds. The brush only does the mechanical work.
🔀 What is the difference between the available styles?
The style labels come from the supplier and correspond to different head shapes. Each variant is still a double-headed brush sold individually.
📦 What's in the box?
One double-headed anti-static brush, in the selected style. No consumables or cleaning products are supplied.
🚚 What are the delivery times?
Delivery in 10 to 18 days, ships within 3 to 5 days.
🛡️ Which guarantee applies?
2-year legal guarantee of conformity. 14-day returns. French-speaking customer service, reply within 1 business day.
Why buy here rather than on a marketplace
It is a fair question. Here is the answer, straight.
Every listing is checked before publication: real compatibility, material, dimensions, box contents. Many models never make it into the catalogue.
A question about compatibility, a fit problem, a return: you write, a human replies within 1 business day. In French.
The 2-year legal warranty of conformity is handled by us — not by a form on the other side of the world. And 14 days to change your mind, with no need to justify yourself.
