BlueRetro Mini for PS1 and PS2: Bluetooth wireless in a 4.8 cm housing
Connecting a modern controller to an original PlayStation, without a cable and without cluttering the front of the console: that is the role of this BlueRetro Mini receiver by RetroScaler. It plugs in place of the wired controller on a PS1, a PS one or a PS2, and receives a PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One S or 8BitDo Bluetooth controller.
What it does
- Compact format: 4.8 × 4.4 × 1.3 cm, for a discreet housing in front of the console.
- BlueRetro firmware: free (open source) firmware on an ESP32 chip, updated via the adapter's USB-C port.
- Button remapping: button assignment is set from the BlueRetro web interface.
- Rumble: feature stated by the manufacturer, active depending on the controller used and the game.
What it doesn't do
- It only handles Bluetooth controllers: a controller with a 2.4 GHz USB dongle, or a first-generation Xbox One controller without Bluetooth, will not connect.
- The PS3 controller requires an additional pairing step, via USB cable from a computer.
- Bluetooth adds latency: low, but higher than that of a wired controller.
- It does not replace a light gun, a steering wheel or a dance mat.
- It does not plug into a PS3 or a more recent console.

Bluetooth controllers listed by the manufacturer: PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox One S, Switch Pro, Joy-Con, Wii Remote, 8BitDo and Retro-Bit. Not covered: PS3 and later consoles, wireless controllers with a USB receiver, and accessories that are not controllers.

Beginner. Plug the adapter into the controller port, put the controller in pairing mode, and the connection is established. Firmware updates and remapping are done from a computer, with a USB-C cable. No disassembly, no soldering.

The job: plug in, pair, play
You remove the wired controller, plug the receiver in its place and put the Bluetooth controller in pairing mode. The console receives the commands as if from an original controller. You play at a distance from the TV, without a cable across the living room, and the small housing goes unnoticed in front of the PlayStation.
The part: BlueRetro in Mini format
BlueRetro is open source firmware that runs on an ESP32 chip. Here RetroScaler houses it in a 4.8 cm case with a USB-C port for updates. Button remapping and rumble are among the stated features, and each firmware version can extend the list of recognised controllers.
Support: before and after plugging in
