BlueRetro adapter for SNES and Super Famicom: a modern Bluetooth controller on the original console
Original 16-bit controllers often have worn buttons and a cable too short for the living room. This BlueRetro adapter by RetroScaler (reference RSBL-231106) plugs in place of the wired controller on a SNES or a Super Famicom and receives a modern Bluetooth controller: PS4, PS5, Switch Pro, Joy-Con or Xbox One S.
What it does
- BlueRetro firmware: free (open source) firmware on an ESP32 chip, which recognises a wide list of Bluetooth controllers and can be updated.
- Button remapping: button assignment is set from the BlueRetro web interface, in a browser that supports Web Bluetooth.
- No work on the console: plugs into the controller port, without disassembly or soldering.
What it doesn't do
- It only handles Bluetooth controllers: a controller with a 2.4 GHz USB dongle, or a first-generation Xbox One controller without Bluetooth, will not connect.
- It does not plug into the mini console re-released in 2017, whose controller connector is different.
- Bluetooth adds latency: low, but higher than that of a wired controller.
- It does not replace the mouse, the light gun or other accessories that are not controllers.
Compatibility
Consoles: SNES (European and American versions) and Super Famicom, which share the same controller port. Bluetooth controllers listed by the manufacturer: PS4, PS5, Switch Pro, Joy-Con and Xbox One S. Not covered: the re-released mini console, other consoles and controllers with a USB receiver.

Beginner. Plug the adapter into the controller port, put the controller in pairing mode, and the connection is established. Remapping is set from a computer or phone that supports Web Bluetooth. No tools, no disassembly, no soldering.

The job: plug in, pair, play
You remove the wired controller, plug the adapter in its place and put the Bluetooth controller in pairing mode. The console receives the commands as if from an original controller. You play from the sofa, without a short cable forcing you to sit at the foot of the TV, with buttons that still respond crisply.
The part: BlueRetro, a free firmware
BlueRetro is open source firmware that runs on an ESP32 chip. RetroScaler builds it into a housing with a SNES connector, common to the European, American and Japanese versions. The recognised controllers and settings grow with each version, without changing anything on the console side.
Support: choosing the right controller
A controller with a crisp D-pad works better for 16-bit games than a stick alone. Check that it is indeed Bluetooth: a model with a USB dongle will not connect. If in doubt about pairing or remapping, our customer service replies within 1 business day.
