8BitDo N30 wireless charger: induction charging, in a retro controller shape
The N30 is a wireless charger for smartphones, designed by 8BitDo in the spirit of its retro controllers. It delivers 5, 7.5, 10 or 15 W depending on the phone and the adapter used, with a charging LED indicator and protection against overvoltage, overcurrent and overheating. It charges through a case up to 4 mm thick.
What it does
- Induction charging from 5 to 15 W: the power depends on the phone and the mains adapter.
- LED indicator: lit while charging, off once you take the phone away.
- Multiple protections: overvoltage, overcurrent, overheating, undervoltage and foreign object detection.
- Case stays on: up to 4 mm thick.
- Compact format: 124.3 × 56.3 × 18.5 mm, 80 g.
What it doesn't do
- The mains adapter is not supplied, and 15 W requires a 9 V 2 A or 12 V 1.5 A adapter.
- It only charges phones that support wireless charging.
- This is not a controller charger: it is meant for smartphones.
- The manufacturer's compatibility list stops at the iPhone 14 and the Galaxy S20: more recent models are not listed.
- No magnetic attachment is announced: the phone lies flat on it.

Case of 4 mm maximum.
Getting started
Plug the USB cable supplied into a mains adapter — 9 V 2 A or 12 V 1.5 A to reach 15 W — then lay the phone flat on it: the indicator lights up. Use between 0 and 35 °C.

A charger that earns its place on the desk
An induction charger is usually a black disc you forget about. The N30 takes on the look of 8BitDo's retro controllers: it sits next to the keyboard like a piece of the setup, and the phone starts charging as soon as you lay it flat, case included up to 4 mm.
15 W, on one condition
The N30 can deliver 5, 7.5, 10 or 15 W. The 15 W call for two things: a phone that accepts them and a 9 V 2 A or 12 V 1.5 A mains adapter, which is not in the box. Without both, charging happens at 5, 7.5 or 10 W.
The protections you expect from a charger
Overvoltage, overcurrent, overheating, undervoltage and foreign object detection: the manufacturer announces these protections to keep charging safe, in particular if a metal object slips under the phone. The LED indicator lights up while charging and goes out when you pick the phone back up.
