Description complète

Workshop suction cup 55 mm: open a screen without marking the shell

Opening a handheld console or replacing a display almost always starts with the same risky move: sliding a blade under the glass and prying. This 55 mm suction cup tackles the problem the other way round — it pulls vertically on the smooth surface and creates the gap that the opening picks will then slip into. The result: fewer marks on the shell and less warped plastic.

What it does

  • Vertical pull: the suction cup pulls the screen upwards instead of forcing against the edge of the shell, where the plastic breaks.
  • 55 mm diameter: wide enough to hold on a handheld console display, a replacement screen or a phone's glass.
  • One piece, reusable: nothing to assemble, nothing to adjust, no consumables to buy again after the job.

What it doesn't do

  • It doesn't heat and doesn't dissolve adhesive: on a glued screen, you first need to soften the glue, otherwise the suction cup comes off.
  • It won't hold on a matt, grainy, porous or perforated surface — textured shell, speaker grille, frosted plastic.
  • It doesn't replace opening picks, spudgers or screwdrivers: it opens the gap, it doesn't take anything apart on its own.
  • On glass that is already cracked, the suction can make the damage worse. Apply adhesive film to the screen before pulling.

Compatibility

Any smooth, flat, non-porous surface with at least 6 cm of clearance: displays of retro and modern handheld consoles, replacement screens supplied as kits, phone and tablet glass, glass or acrylic panels. Not suitable for matt or textured shells, perforated faces, or tightly curved surfaces, where no vacuum can form.

Skill level required

Beginner. No soldering, no cutting. Keep to hand a set of screwdrivers suited to the device (Phillips, tri-wing or Y depending on the model), opening picks or thin spudgers to release the clips once the gap is open, and a gentle heat source if the screen is held with adhesive.

In the box

  • 1 removal suction cup, 55 mm, in the chosen colour.

The technique: open without marking

Most shells damaged during a repair get damaged in the first ten seconds, when a screwdriver is slid under the glass to pry it up. The suction cup reverses the move: it sits in the centre of the smooth surface and pulls upwards, vertically, until a gap appears. That gap is where the opening picks then go in, without stressing the plastic. The edge of the shell is no longer used as a pivot, so it doesn't turn white or warp.

The tool: 55 mm, one single piece

A 55 mm diameter is the useful compromise for a retro workshop: wide enough to generate real suction on a handheld console display or a replacement screen, compact enough to sit on a phone's glass. The tool is one-piece, with no mechanism to adjust and no consumable parts, so it comes out of the drawer as often as needed. Five colours are available: they change nothing about the grip, only how easily you spot it in a toolbox.

The limit: what it won't do

A suction cup doesn't unstick anything on its own. On a screen held with adhesive, you first need to soften the glue, otherwise it comes off before the gap opens. It also needs a smooth, flat, non-porous surface: on a matt, textured or perforated shell, no vacuum forms and the tool slips. And on glass that is already cracked, the suction can spread the crack: it's better to apply adhesive film before pulling. We'd rather write it here than read it in a return.

Frequently Asked Questions

🔧 Do I need to solder to use this suction cup?

No. No soldering, no cutting: you place the suction cup on the smooth surface and pull vertically. It's a disassembly tool, not a part to install.

🎮 Which surfaces does it really hold on?

Any smooth, flat, non-porous surface with at least 6 cm of clearance: handheld console displays, replacement screens, phone and tablet glass, glass and acrylic. It won't hold on a matt, textured, perforated or strongly curved shell.

♨️ Do I need to heat the screen first?

If the screen is held with adhesive, yes: the glue must be softened with a gentle heat source, otherwise the suction cup comes off before opening the gap. The suction cup doesn't heat and doesn't dissolve any adhesive.

📦 What's in the box?

One removal suction cup, 55 mm, in the chosen colour. No other tools are supplied.

🧰 What other tools do I need?

A set of screwdrivers suited to the device (Phillips, tri-wing or Y depending on the model), opening picks or thin spudgers to release the clips once the gap is open, and something to heat gently if the screen is glued.

💥 What if my glass is already cracked?

The suction can spread the crack and pull off fragments. Apply a wide adhesive film over the whole surface before pulling, then work slowly.

🚚 What are the delivery times?

Delivery in 10 to 18 days, ships within 3 to 5 days.

🛡️ Which guarantee applies?

2-year legal guarantee of conformity. 14-day returns. Listing verified on 19 August 2026, reply within 1 business day.
