The sensor and the battery life in the same shell
The PAW3398 goes up to 26 000 DPI, with 650 IPS and 50 G of acceleration stated by Rapoo. The 800 mAh battery lasts 160 hours according to the manufacturer, over a 2,4 GHz link at 1 000 Hz. These two characteristics are rarely found together: mice that push the polling rate higher pay for it in battery life. Here the choice is a deliberate 1 000 Hz, i.e. a stated latency of 1 ms.
1 000 Hz, and what that means
The polling rate is fixed at 1 000 Hz: the mouse reports its position a thousand times per second, i.e. one reading every 1 ms. Rapoo sells a separate 4K version at 4 000 Hz and 0,25 ms. This particular model is the 1 000 Hz version. On a 60 to 165 Hz screen, the gap between the two remains hard to perceive. On a 240 Hz panel and above, it becomes measurable.
Who it is not for
It is not for you if you want to connect the mouse over Bluetooth to a laptop or a tablet: there is no Bluetooth, only the 2,4 GHz dongle and the USB-C cable. It is not for you either if you are after the absolute featherweight, 68 g against 49 to 55 g on the lightest models. Finally, the customization driver is stated for Windows: under macOS or Linux the mouse works, but the advanced settings are not accessible.

Why this mouse is in our catalogue
We check every mouse before listing it. Many never make it in.
Every mouse is checked before it enters the catalogue: the sensor actually fitted, the weight on the scales, the shape and the grips it supports, what it does not do. Many models never make it in, because they do not live up to what they announce. What this one can do, and where it stops, is detailed further down this page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Rapoo VT9 work over Bluetooth?
No. It offers two modes: 2,4 GHz wireless via the supplied USB receiver, and wired USB-C. No Bluetooth mode is stated by Rapoo.
What battery life is stated?
Rapoo states 160 hours with the 800 mAh battery, over the 2,4 GHz link. A full charge takes 2 to 3 hours over USB-C.
Can you play while it charges?
Yes. The USB-C cable doubles as the wired mode: the mouse stays usable while it recharges.
26 000 DPI, is that useful?
Rarely in game. Most players stay between 400 and 3 200 DPI. The 26 000 DPI figure shows the headroom of the PAW3398 sensor, not a setting to use day to day.
Is this the 4 000 Hz model?
No. This version runs at 1 000 Hz, i.e. a stated latency of 1 ms. Rapoo sells a 4K variant at 4 000 Hz separately.
Does it work on a Mac?
The mouse is recognised as a standard device, but the customization driver is stated for Windows. Under macOS, macros and profiles cannot be configured.
