NES composite AV cable: connect the console without going through the aerial
The front-loading NES has RCA video and audio sockets on its side. This composite AV cable connects them to the AV input of a TV or converter, with three RCA plugs: yellow for video, white and red for sound. A cleaner picture than through the aerial output, for the NES-001.
What it does
- Composite video: the yellow plug goes into the composite video input of the TV or a converter.
- Sound: the white and red plugs go into the audio inputs.
- Cleaner than the aerial: composite avoids the RF modulation of the aerial output, a source of interference.
- Direct connection: no disassembly, no settings on the console.
What it doesn't do
- It remains composite: no RGB SCART, no HDMI, the picture keeps the console's original resolution.
- The NES outputs mono sound: only one of the two audio plugs carries the sound, which may come out of only one side of the TV. This is how the console behaves, not a fault in the cable.
- It is not suitable for the "top loader" NES (NES-101), which has no RCA sockets.
- A TV without a composite input needs a composite to HDMI converter, not included.

The move: finally leave the aerial output behind
Connecting a NES through the aerial means hunting for the right channel and putting up with slight interference. With this cable, the NES-001 uses its RCA sockets: the yellow plug into the video input, the sound next to it, and the console appears on the TV's AV input, with no channel tuning.
The part: a composite cable with three plugs
Three RCA plugs in the usual colours: yellow for video, white and red for audio. As the NES outputs mono sound, only one of the two audio plugs carries the sound. The cable replaces the one that is often missing from a second-hand console, with no disassembly or soldering.

🎮 Which NES does this cable work with?
With the front-loading NES (NES-001), which has RCA sockets on the side. The "top loader" NES (NES-101) has none: the cable cannot be connected to it.
🔊 Why does the sound only come out of one side?
The NES outputs mono sound: only one audio plug carries it. This is normal, not a fault in the cable.
📺 My TV has no AV input, what can I do?
