A 7.1 with nothing to install
The H6's 7.1 virtualization is computed by the box hanging on the cable, not by software installed on the computer. A button switches it on, a red indicator confirms it. Practical consequence: it works everywhere the headset is recognized as a USB sound card, so on PC and Mac, but also on PS4 and PS5, where most "7.1" headsets lose the effect as soon as you leave Windows.
The inline control box does all the work
On the 2 m braided cable: volume wheel, mic mute, 7.1 button and an equalizer button with three profiles, game, music and movie. Game mode lifts the bottom of the spectrum, music mode the top. The headset is stated at 48 kHz, 16 or 24 bit. The omnidirectional condenser mic comes off; the H6 weighs 330 g with the mic fitted.
What it doesn't do
It does not do true 7.1: two 50 mm drivers, one per ear, and processing that simulates where the sources sit. It does not work on Xbox, which does not accept USB headsets. FIFINE does not declare it compatible with the Nintendo Switch. It does not cut ambient noise, the "noise cancelling" applying to the mic. And its RGB lighting cannot be switched off.

Does the FIFINE H6's 7.1 work on PS5?
Yes. The virtualization is computed by the USB box on the cable, not by PC software. As soon as the console recognizes the headset as a USB sound card, the 7.1 button works. FIFINE lists PC, Mac, PS4 and PS5.
Do you have to install a driver or software?
No. No software is needed: 7.1, the equalizer, volume and mic mute are physical buttons on the inline box.
Is it true 7.1 with several speakers?
No. The headset has two 50 mm drivers, one per ear. The 7.1 is a simulation that shifts sources in space. No consumer headset fits seven speakers in.
Does it work on Xbox or on Nintendo Switch?
The H6 connects over USB-A and Xbox does not accept USB headsets: the console goes through the controller's jack. As for the Switch, FIFINE does not list it among the supported platforms.
What are the three equalizer modes for?
A button on the box switches between game, music and movie. Game mode lifts the bass, music mode the treble. The setting is stored in the box, not in the computer.
Can the mic be removed?
Yes. The omnidirectional condenser mic is detachable. Omnidirectional pickup catches your voice whatever the position of the boom, but it also picks up more of the room than a cardioid mic.
