AYN Thor: the dual-screen clamshell for DS, 3DS and GameCube
The AYN Thor takes the DS form factor: two AMOLED screens stacked in a clamshell. On top, a 6-inch 1080p 120 Hz panel; below, a 3.92-inch touchscreen. Inside, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 running Android 13: GameCube, PS2 and 3DS run at full speed, Switch remains partial. A handheld for self-sufficient players, delivered unconfigured.
What it does
- Two AMOLED screens: 6-inch 1920 × 1080 at 120 Hz on top, 3.92-inch 1240 × 1080 touchscreen below. DS and 3DS games get their original layout back, with no split screen.
- Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Adreno 740: GameCube and PS2 at 2x resolution, 3DS up to 4x, and everything older with no particular tweaking.
- Full controls: Hall effect sticks, analogue L2/R2 triggers, L3/R3, gyroscope and rumble.
- Active cooling: a fan holds clock speeds during long sessions.
- Open Android: emulators, launchers (ES-DE, Daijishō, Beacon), streaming from a PC with Moonlight or Steam Link, Android games.
What it does not do
- No local PC games: it is an Android handheld on an ARM processor, not a Windows PC. Steam and PC games only run by streaming from your computer.
- Switch: partial emulation. Results depend on the game and on the GPU drivers you install; demanding titles drop below 30 frames per second.
- Wii: playable, at 1.5x resolution at best. Wii U: experimental. PS3 and Switch 2: no.
- Using both screens at once uses more battery and performance than a single screen.
- The fan is clearly audible in performance mode.
- The lower half is glass: it shows fingerprints.
- Delivered unconfigured: installing and setting up emulators is up to you.
Compatibility and versions
Three versions, all with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2: Base (8 GB RAM, 128 GB), Pro (12 GB, 256 GB) and Max (16 GB, 1 TB). Emulation performance is the same; RAM and storage change. The Lite version (Snapdragon 865) is not offered on this page. Storage expandable by microSD, video output through the USB-C port, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3.
Skill level

What you can really play
With a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, everything up to PS2 and GameCube runs at full speed, at 2x resolution. The 3DS is the highlight: each screen has its own panel, just like the original console. The Wii works with tweaks; Switch remains partial and depends on the GPU drivers you install.
Two screens, a real DS
On top, a 6-inch 1080p 120 Hz AMOLED for 16:9 games. Below, a 3.92-inch AMOLED touchscreen for the DS and 3DS second screen, or for a map, an inventory or a guide. The clamshell protects both panels in your bag.

🎮 Can the AYN Thor run PC or Steam games?
Not locally: it is an Android handheld on an ARM processor, not a Windows PC. You can however stream PC games from your computer with Moonlight or Steam Link on the same network.
🕹️ Which consoles does it emulate at full speed?
Everything up to PSP, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, DS and Saturn, plus GameCube and PS2 at 2x resolution, and 3DS up to 4x. Wii is playable at 1.5x, Switch partially. PS3 and Switch 2 are not emulated.
🎮 Does Switch run on the AYN Thor?
