Hall effect, in practice
A classic stick rubs against a resistive track. After a few hundred hours, the track wears down and your character starts drifting on its own. Here, the sticks and triggers read a magnetic field: no physical contact, so nothing to wear out. It's the only real answer to drift, and it's on both sticks as well as both triggers.
The Fire Ring, and how to set it
Two light rings surround the sticks, with three modes, one of which traces the stick's movement in real time. Useful detail: you set it with a button combination on the controller, not from the PC. The 8BitDo Ultimate Software X handles firmware updates; it does not control the lighting.
What it isn't
This isn't the "plain" Ultimate Wired. The C model has no rear buttons, no onboard profiles, no Turbo and no macros. It's wired, and it works neither on PlayStation, nor Switch, nor macOS. If you need programmable paddles or wireless, that's a different model — better to know before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this controller have rear buttons?
No. The Ultimate C Wired model has no paddles and no programmable rear buttons. The two P1/P2 buttons belong to the Ultimate Wired (without the "C"), a different, larger model with no RGB lighting.
Does it work on PS5, Switch or Mac?
No. It is officially licensed for Xbox and only works on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows 10 or later. No PlayStation, Nintendo Switch or macOS compatibility.
What does the Hall effect really change?
Classic potentiometer sticks wear down a track through friction, which eventually causes drifting (the infamous "drift"). Hall effect sticks read a magnetic field with no physical contact: there is nothing to wear out. On this model, the triggers too use Hall effect.
Can the lighting be set from the PC?
No. The three Fire Ring modes and their colors are changed with a button combination on the controller. The 8BitDo Ultimate Software X is only for firmware updates.
Is the cable detachable?
Yes. The controller has a USB-C port and the supplied 2.5 m USB cable unplugs. Note: the housing around the port is tight, so some third-party USB-C cables with a thick connector won't fit.
Is there a Turbo, macros or profiles?
No, none of the three on this model. Advanced remapping and onboard profiles are reserved for the higher models in the Ultimate range.
