Description complète
LK-128 liquid metal: bringing down the temperature of a chip that silicone paste can no longer cool
A home console blowing hard, a laptop that throttles after ten minutes: in most cases, the original thermal paste has dried out. The LK-128 is a gallium-based liquid metal alloy, whose thermal conductivity is far higher than that of a conventional silicone paste. It is an advanced repair product: powerful, but demanding.
What it does
- Much better heat transfer: a liquid alloy conducts heat far better than a paste made of particles suspended in silicone, which translates into lower temperatures on the hottest-running chips.
- Does not dry out like a conventional paste: it does not harden or crack with heat cycles, unlike the low-end factory pastes.
- Three quantities: 1 g for a single chip, 3 g and 5 g for several machines or for a workshop doing one refurbishment after another.
What it doesn't do
- It must not be applied to aluminium. Gallium attacks aluminium and eats through it: bare aluminium heatsinks, cold plates or lids are ruled out, without exception.
- It conducts electricity. A drop that spills onto the board causes a short circuit: this is not a product for your first disassembly.
- It does not replace a clogged heatsink, a worn-out fan or failed thermal pads: it only fixes the chip / heatsink contact.
- It brings nothing to a passively cooled retro console (Game Boy, Mega Drive, PS1, Saturn): these machines have no heatsink pressed onto the chip.
- No numerical specifications have been taken from the supplier's product sheet: it was incorrect. The stated conductivity in W/m·K is still to be confirmed.
Compatibility
For nickel-plated copper surfaces only: desktop or laptop processor lid, nickel-plated copper cold plate, recent home consoles including the PS5 and PS4 Pro. Do not use on any aluminium heatsink, on a bare chip without a lid if you are not equipped to protect it, or on passively cooled retro consoles.
Skill level required
Advanced. No soldering, but complete disassembly of the cooling assembly, cleaning with isopropyl alcohol and protection of the neighbouring components (conformal coating or Kapton tape) around the chip. Amount to apply: a very thin film, never a drop. Have a suitable screwdriver, lint-free cloths and isopropyl alcohol ready — see the Workshop & modding collection for tools.
In the box
- 1 syringe of LK-128 liquid metal, in the chosen quantity (1 g, 3 g or 5 g)
- Any application accessories are not guaranteed: the supplier does not document them reliably.

The job: bringing silence back to a suffocating machine
A home console whose fan starts screaming after a few minutes, a laptop that slows down as soon as a slightly demanding emulator runs: in most cases, the factory-applied thermal paste has dried out and no longer transfers heat to the heatsink. You disassemble the cooling assembly, clean off the old paste with isopropyl alcohol, apply a film of liquid metal and reassemble. You can hear the difference even before you see it in a temperature reading.
The part: an alloy, not a paste
The LK-128 is not a paste made of particles in a silicone binder: it is a gallium-based metal alloy that is liquid at room temperature. It conducts heat like a metal, so much better than a silicone compound, and it does not harden over time. On the other hand, it also conducts electricity and attacks aluminium. That is what makes it a workshop product rather than a consumer product.
The limitation we mention before you buy
If your heatsink is bare aluminium, do not buy this product: gallium amalgamates with aluminium and eventually eats through it. If you have never disassembled a cooling assembly, choose a conventional thermal paste instead, less efficient but with no risk of short circuit. This liquid metal is intended for nickel-plated copper surfaces and for someone who knows how to mask neighbouring components before applying it. We would rather say so here than deal with a return afterwards.

Ce qu’il fait bien
- Far higher thermal conductivity than a silicone paste
- Does not harden or crack with heat cycles
- Three quantities: 1 g, 3 g, 5 g
- Useful for refurbishing a recent home console or a throttling laptop
Ce qu’il ne fait pas
- Not for use on aluminium: gallium attacks and eats through the metal
- Electrically conductive: a smear on the board causes a short circuit
- For advanced users only, after complete disassembly of the cooling assembly
- Pointless on a passively cooled retro console
- Stated conductivity in W/m·K not yet verified

Frequently Asked Questions
🔧 Do I need to solder to use this liquid metal?
No, no soldering. However, you do need to fully disassemble the cooling assembly, clean off the old paste with isopropyl alcohol and protect the components around the chip.
🎮 Which machines can it be applied to?
Nickel-plated copper surfaces: desktop or laptop processor lids, nickel-plated copper cold plates, recent home consoles such as the PS5 or PS4 Pro. Passively cooled retro consoles are not concerned.
⚠️ Why is it not allowed on aluminium?
The gallium in the alloy amalgamates with aluminium: it weakens it and then eats through it. A bare aluminium heatsink or cold plate is therefore ruled out, without exception.
📦 What is in the box?
One syringe of LK-128 liquid metal in the chosen quantity: 1 g, 3 g or 5 g. Any application accessories are not reliably documented by the supplier, so we do not guarantee them.
🧰 What tools do I need?
A screwdriver suited to your machine, lint-free cloths, isopropyl alcohol and something to mask neighbouring components (Kapton tape or conformal coating).
⏱️ How much should I apply?
A very thin film spread over the lid, never a drop left in a blob. 1 g is more than enough for a single chip; 3 g and 5 g are intended for several machines.
🚚 What are the delivery times?
Delivery in 10 to 18 days, ships within 3 to 5 days.
🛡️ Which guarantee applies?
2-year legal guarantee of conformity. 14-day returns. French customer service, reply within 1 business day.
Why buy here rather than on a marketplace
It is a fair question. Here is the answer, straight.
Every listing is checked before publication: real compatibility, material, dimensions, box contents. Many models never make it into the catalogue.
A question about compatibility, a fit problem, a return: you write, a human replies within 1 business day. In French.
The 2-year legal warranty of conformity is handled by us — not by a form on the other side of the world. And 14 days to change your mind, with no need to justify yourself.
We do not claim to be the cheapest. We claim that you will know exactly what you are buying before you pay.
