Description complète

300 mm flexible shaft: reach the screw your screwdriver can't see

Building an arcade cabinet, closing up a bartop, screwing a control panel or a piece of setup furniture back together: there's always one screw stuck behind a crossbar, where no straight handle can fit. This 300 mm flexible shaft bends between the tool and the screw and transmits the turning force at an angle. It takes 6.35 mm hex bits (1/4 inch), the standard for everyday tools.

What it does

  • Angled screwdriving: the sheath bends around an obstacle to reach a screw you can't get at head-on.
  • 300 mm extension: gives you extra reach inside an arcade cabinet, a closed unit or the back of a rack.
  • 6.35 mm standard: fits a bit holder handle, a ratchet or the chuck of an electric screwdriver, and takes standard 1/4-inch hex bits.
  • Carbon steel: metal core, silver finish, 300 mm long.

What it doesn't do

  • It's not a precision tool: handheld console shell screws (PH00 Phillips, tri-wing, Y) are removed with 4 mm bits and a precision screwdriver, not with a 6.35 mm extension.
  • No bits are included: the extension on its own won't drive anything.
  • A flexible shaft loses torque in the bend and doesn't cope well with forceful screwing. Keep it for moderate tightening, not for drilling or freeing a seized screw.
  • No screwdriver or handle in the box: you need to already own the tool that drives it.
  • The manufacturer is not identified at source (generic 300 mm silver reference): we don't state a maximum torque or a minimum bend radius.

Compatibility

Compatible with any bit with a 6.35 mm (1/4 inch) hex shank, the standard for screwdriver bits and bit holder handles. On the drive side, it fits into a drill driver chuck, a bit holder handle or a ratchet fitted with a 6.35 mm bit holder. Not compatible with 4 mm precision bits and fine electronics screwdrivers — so not suitable for opening a handheld console or a controller.

Skill level required

No particular skills: insert the bit on one end, drive from the other. Good habit: hold the sheath with one hand so it doesn't whip around, and keep the speed low if you use it on an electric screwdriver. For taking a console apart, use a precision screwdriver kit instead.

The screw you can never reach

An arcade cabinet, a bartop or a piece of setup furniture is a wooden box with screws set at angles nobody designed with a straight screwdriver in mind. You always end up removing an entire crossbar just to reach two screws. This flexible shaft bends between the tool and the screw and makes the journey for you. The build gets finished without undoing the assembly.

A simple part, to the right standard

The only thing that matters on this type of extension is the size: 6.35 mm hex, i.e. a quarter inch, the standard for screwdriver bits and bit holder handles. Your existing bits fit it, and the shaft fits into a chuck, a ratchet or a handle. The core is carbon steel and the length is 300 mm. Nothing more, nothing to configure.

What not to ask of it

A flexible shaft loses torque as soon as it bends: it's for driving screws, not for freeing a seized screw or drilling. Nor does it replace a precision kit for opening a handheld console or a controller, whose screws require 4 mm tri-wing, Y or PH00 bits. And it arrives bare, with no bits. We'd rather tell you before you order than after.

Frequently Asked Questions

🔩 Which bits can I fit on it?

Any bit with a 6.35 mm hex shank, i.e. a quarter inch, the standard for everyday tools. No bits are supplied with the extension.
