Description complète
Black mirror acrylic sheet: the raw material for retro projects
There comes a point in any modding project when the part you need isn't in the catalogue: a bartop panel, a display case backing for a cartridge collection, a window cut into a shell, a protective plate under a console stand. This black methacrylate (PMMA) sheet with a mirror face is made for exactly that: it is material to cut, not a ready-to-fit part.
What it does
- Black mirror face: a dark reflection that goes well with cabinet fronts, console stands and retro signage, where a silver mirror would clash.
- Four sizes, four thicknesses: 100x100, 150x150, 200x200 and 200x300 mm, in 2, 3, 4 or 5 mm. The 2 mm sheet bends and can be glued onto a backing; the 5 mm sheet is self-supporting and can be screwed.
- Works with common workshop tools: fine-tooth saw, acrylic cutter, file, drill at low speed. No specialist machine is needed for straight cuts.
- Lighter and less brittle than glass: about half the weight at the same thickness, and it won't shatter into sharp shards if the project falls off the workbench.
What it doesn't do
- It is not a ready-to-use part. No pre-formed cut-outs, no holes, no adhesive: the sheet arrives rectangular and it's up to you to machine it.
- It is not a screen protector. PMMA scratches much faster than tempered glass, and the mirror layer marks at the slightest dry rubbing. Do not use it in front of a handheld console screen.
- It is not compatible with any particular console. Nothing is pre-cut for a Game Boy, a cabinet or a specific case: it is a material, not a kit.
- The mirror is decorative. Tinted black, it doesn't reflect an image as sharp or as bright as a glass mirror.
- Acrylic doesn't like heat: avoid placing it in direct contact with a power supply, a heatsink or an incandescent bulb.
- The supplier documents neither the manufacturing process (cast or extruded), nor the thickness tolerance, nor the treatment of the second face.
Compatibility
Strictly speaking, none: it is a workshop consumable, not a console accessory. The uses tinkerers keep coming back to: side panels and marquee plate on a bartop or an arcade cabinet, back panel or shelf in a display case for cartridges and consoles, a window cut into a modified PC or console shell, a display base, an engraved or painted plate for games room signage. None of this is supplied cut to shape.
Skill level required
DIY, no electronics. No soldering. Leave the protective film on while cutting and drilling: it is what prevents scratches. A fine-tooth saw or an acrylic cutter is enough for straight cuts; drill at low speed, with the sheet lying flat on a scrap of wood, otherwise the hole will chip. The edges can be finished with a file and then fine sandpaper. For assembly, use acrylic-specific glue or double-sided tape: ordinary cyanoacrylate leaves a white haze on acrylic.
In the box
- 2 mm variants: 3 identical sheets.
- 3, 4 and 5 mm variants: 1 sheet.
- Factory-applied protective film on the faces, to be removed after machining.
No template, screws or glue are supplied.

When the part isn't in any catalogue
A retro project always ends up running into a part nobody has ever made: the side panel of a home-made bartop, the shelf of a cartridge display case, the window you want to open up in a shell. No supplier sells it, because it only exists in your project. An acrylic sheet tackles the problem from the other end: you start from the material and shape it the way you want.
Black mirror, not clear Plexiglas
Clear methacrylate is available everywhere; black with a mirror face much less so. Yet it is the one that works on an arcade cabinet or a display stand: it gives a dark reflection that shows off whatever sits on it instead of revealing the structure behind. Four sizes and four thicknesses let you choose between a flexible 2 mm sheet to glue and a rigid 5 mm panel to screw.
What you need to know before ordering
It is a material, not an accessory. The sheet arrives rectangular, with no cut-outs, no holes and no adhesive. It isn't designed for any particular console, it scratches faster than glass and its mirror layer marks at the slightest dry rubbing. If you are looking for a part to fit as is, this is not the right product. If you have a saw and a project in mind, this is exactly it.

Frequently Asked Questions
🔧 Do I need special tools to cut it?
No. A fine-tooth saw or an acrylic cutter is enough for straight cuts, plus a file and fine sandpaper to finish the edges. Drill at low speed, with the sheet lying flat on a scrap of wood, otherwise the hole will chip. Keep the protective film on throughout machining.
🎮 What is it actually used for in retro gaming?
Panels and a marquee plate on a bartop or an arcade cabinet, a display case backing for cartridges and consoles, a window cut into a modified shell, a display base, a signage plate for a games room. It is raw material: everything is cut to suit.
📏 What sizes and thicknesses are available?
Four sizes — 100x100, 150x150, 200x200 and 200x300 mm — in 2, 3, 4 or 5 mm depending on the variant. The 2 mm sheet bends and can be glued onto a backing; the 4 and 5 mm sheets stay rigid and can be screwed without warping.
🪞 Is it a real mirror?
No. It is a black-tinted mirror effect: the reflection is dark, less sharp and less bright than a glass mirror. It is decorative, not optical, and not suitable for a setup that requires an accurate reflection.
📦 What's in the box?
Three identical sheets for the 2 mm variants, a single sheet for the 3, 4 and 5 mm variants. Each sheet comes with its factory protective film. No glue, screws or template are supplied.
🧼 How do I clean it without scratching it?
A clean, slightly damp microfibre cloth, never dry: dust would act as an abrasive on the mirror layer. Avoid alcohol, acetone and ammonia-based glass cleaners, which cloud and crack acrylic.
🚚 What are the delivery times?
Delivery in 10 to 18 days, ships within 3 to 5 days.
🛡️ What guarantee applies?
2-year legal guarantee of conformity. 14-day returns. French-speaking customer service, reply within 1 business day.
